Alec is the Founder and Executive Director of Civil Rights Corps. He has pioneered constitutional civil rights cases to challenge the size, power, profit, and everyday brutality of the punishment bureaucracy across the United States. Alec graduated from Yale College in 2005 with a degree in Ethics, Politics, & Economics and Harvard Law School in 2008, where he was a Supreme Court Chair of the Harvard Law Review. Before founding Civil Rights Corps, Alec was a civil rights lawyer and public defender with the Special Litigation Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia; a federal public defender in Alabama, representing impoverished people accused of federal crimes; and co-founder of the organization Equal Justice Under Law. His books, Copaganda and Unusual Cruelty unpack the ways the legal system re-entrenches many of the inequities it seeks to remedy.

WEST HIGH TIMES March 29, 1965 “Let's Clear The Air About Smoking” No, West High doesn't keep in its employ any arsonists or phro-maniacs. The smoke that pours out of the lavatory is not caused by Indian smoke signals either. It is coming from the 'mouths of babes'. Our fellow "students' (and I use the term loosely) are using our rest rooms for anything but rest. It is shameful enough that any student, boy or girl, could have such disrespect for the long standing rules and regulations of West High School, but when a student has such gross disrespect for himselfit is completely disgusting. How can anyone who has an iota of self-respect trade more than ten years of schooling and a high school diploma for a chance of contracting cancer? The people who do smoke in the lavatories are decidedly not scholarly people. They do not participate in school activities or athletics. About all they ever do for West is to smell up the boys' and girls' rooms with tobacco smoke. We don't need these students here. We particularly don't need these students smoking here. It is important to note that an overall standard of “affordability” is a broad brush. “Deeply affordable” units are only affordable to a household earning exactly 30% AMI. An “affordable” unit becomes unaffordable to a resident if they make less than 30% of AMI. See pics for dollar amt of per % AMI

As is customary, HUD released its annual report on homelessness at the end of 2024. It revealed a startling year-over-year increase in homelessness among individuals and families in the United States. Among the devastating data, there were bright spots such as a decrease in homeless veterans. But the reporting and punditry surrounding the report was less than stellar, and the news was buried in a matter of days. Crucially, some of the worst reporting on HUD's findings came from left wing media sources who pointed to immigration as one of the drivers of the increase, conveniently and uncritically parroting conservative talking points while ignoring the more pertinent narratives.
