Unlike a lot of agriculture which is regionally concentrated, (e.g. fresh fruits are overwhelmingly produced in California) dairies are geographically dispersed so there's a contingent of dairy farmers in all 50 states, making them a formidable lobbying group
The US produces way way way too much dairy and a big reason it's in our schools is because it subsidizes the industry. You can copy and paste that to all kinds of agribusiness in the US. That who portion of the economy exists on government handouts.
lots of good theories going around about the weird whole milk advertising going on right now, but my personal one is the milk industrial complex is worried and mad about the growth of milk alternatives like soy or oat milk and want to reclaim previous cultural dominance

True, but there has never not been an off-ramp.

I mean, lots of the people that oppose Trump today, supported him before. Seriously. It's not even an issue.🤷🏿‍♂️

The issue is when people still want to hold onto the hate that lead them to support him, but want sympathy because they got burned too.
Nuanced take: I think it's really important to give *normal citizens* who supported Trump and off-ramp and *professional writers, pundits and politicians* who supported Trump should have to wear it like a scarlet letter for the rest of their lives
This is aggravating, because on the one hand I think it's really important to give fascists an off-ramp and positive reinforcement when they use it...

...on the other hand, FUCK that guy, in particular.

Gallego ("moderate" Dem) is going with "ICE needs to be totally torn down" (not "reform and retrain"). This is a pivot point for the country on immigration. You have been seeing this in the data for a while, and now officials are snapping to the public opinion www.gelliottmorris.com/p/ice-is-a-7...

even moderate members of congress are finally realizing that the BS they've been sold about centrism from the democratic consultant industrial complex fails to account for uncertainty or shifting public opinion, and thus has zero external validity here in the real world. let me just say: welcome!

This is an occupation.
NOEM IS LYING. I have seen people get taken! It was the same each time: armed men racing out of a blacked-out SUV, seizing a screaming or fleeing pedestrian, and pulling them into the car without any attempt to even learn their identity. Always a person alone on the street. Always a person of color.

“First Amendment Zones” are Orwellian nonsense of the same vintage as “homeland security”
BRENNAN: Noem called on your to set up a safe zone where protest would be contained. Is that something you're looking at?

JACOB FREY: First Amendment speech is not limited to one park or one section of the city. You're allowed to protest so long as you're doing it peacefully

THREAD. Having just written a book about this and talked to a LOT of Democrats, I can assure you that neither Cory Booker nor the policing industry he’s advertising think that more money for ICE “training” and tech would address any problem that any person of good will has with what ICE is doing.

It’s ironic that they’re like “if we do ethnic cleansing we’ll have a high trust neighborly society” and then Minneapolis is literally doing high trust neighborly society and they’re like nooooo
Many Americans are terrible neighbors to each other, and that is why MN is striking everyone as extraordinary activism... when they are telling us that it is not. They're good neighbors!

It's no wonder that "being a shitty neighbor" is the hallmark of our domestic politics and our foreign policy.
