The reason we have laws* against bribery is that companies will absolutely bribe politicians at the very first opportunity if it is good for the bottom line, because they see it as a sound business decision, not a civilizational betrayal.

One of the wool cloth making processes is "felting" where heat, friction and chemicals are used to open up the wool fibre. It used to be called "matting", and the chemical used was human urine.

The urine was provided by the locals, which earned them the nickname "Kruikenzeiker", jug pissers.

Just been back through the footage of the cat cam because either Mog got suddenly very hungry or she had a visitor. Look at this chonky floof (being casually overseen by Mog). 1/5

Couldn’t resist setting up a bit of a bistro scene chez moi for the Mustard Pork Chops that are #RecipeOfTheDay! And I serve gnocchi with them in place of potatoes, not just for speed and ease: they’re wonderful with the pork’s mustard and cider cream sauce. www.nigella.com/recipes/must...
Mustard Pork Chops
This is possibly the easiest route to a proper, filling and yet strangely delicate dinner. The pork is cooked just enough time to take away any pinkness but ensure tenderness within, and is gloriously...

While I'm wading through the huge complicated thing I'm working on, I will share a simple tool I keep next to me for these types of adventures. It's a modified Boston matrix. The quadrants are right/relevant, right/irrelevant, wrong/relevant and wrong/irrelevant.

This isn't just any fox ... it's a fox created out of the remains of a Cornish Red rhododendron tree.

Standing 6 metres tall in the Lost Gardens of Heligan, it is made up of 600 pieces of wood, all from a tree that predated WW1 and was blown down during a recent winter storm.

I was happy to get closer—albeit brief—views of the silvered leaf monkey (langur) when a small troop hopped through the trees during one of our river floats. As a bonus, we got to see the less common "red morph" of the species as well!

this tawdry Olivia Nuzzi stuff highlights why I’m turning into a small-c conservative with regards to “it is unseemly and shameful for people in positions of power and influence to subject the public to their messy-ass sex nonsense on a constant basis”
