Found a patch of earthstars in a new location by our house-I'm so psyched!!🤩

In a bed of tan and fawn-colored live oak leaves and acorn caps is an espresso-brown, star shaped fungus whose interior is revealed as a pale spherical sac containing brown spores.

Am working in the garden, today, and remembered that a cougar was filmed walking across a neighbor's back porch at 5, this morning.

Yesterday I saw groups of mule deer moseying about, here and there. 🦌🦌🦌

Today, there are NONE.

This suspicious looking bump on a limb would have been easy to overlook and brush off as "one of the usual suspects." The thing is you have to look because, every once in a while, it's not. This one turned out to be my first merlin.

Now 3, 2018
Bare tree in a meadow has a small bump on one of its upper branches. It stood out for being too big to be a sparrow and too small to be a crow or something like that. A look through the binoculars showed it was a merlin, North America's second smallest falcon.
