Nature comics (Bird and Moon). Books about nature. Talks. Bird facts. rosemarymosco.com She/her.
Today is the second anniversary of my dad Vincent Mosco’s sudden, untimely death from a heart condition. Dad was the kindest man, my best friend, a serious and thoughtful technology scholar who also happened to listen to All Star by Smash Mouth as his pump up song before he gave any big talk.

What’s a book you’ve read recently that you’ve found to be beautiful, fascinating, and enjoyable (without too much horror/torture/trauma)? I’ve hit a slump and would love recs. Nonfiction or fiction both gratefully appreciated. I especially like books by women.

I think all the time about how every tech company desperately tried to get us on board with crypto/NFTs in 2022, including all those Super Bowl ads. They wasted a bunch of energy, spewed a bunch of emissions, got vulnerable people hooked on pyramid schemes, and then just pretended it didn't happen?

Since Valentine's Day is approaching, I'm reposting some of my past Valentine's comics.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you have Delta Sky Miles, you can donate them to help a kidnapped-and-released person fly home!

They are set free on the streets of El Paso or another Texas town with no phone, no money, nothing at all. Your miles can get them back to their loved ones!

CC Astronomy first went live just over *11 years ago*. Dang. It has over 85 million views total now, and while it's getting out of date in some ways, I just linked to it in a newsletter article about how stars die because some things don't change rapidly.

Still. Dang.
My kid, who is going into high school and wants to pursue astrophysics, is getting a head start with @philplait.bsky.social's Crash Course series. It's wild that they're watching YouTube videos of the same guy I was reading 20 years ago.

The #dinosaurs of today are as bizarre and extravagant as those of the Mesozoic, and we know little about many of them. Among the groups I'm especially interested in are #cassowaries, and I've been fortunate enough to work on them. Here's one of my favourite articles... tetzoo.com/blog/2023/4/...

Cross stitch based on my pixel art! It looks amazing.
I cross-stitched this kingfisher for a cake border in 2024. It is my first contribution to a family effort: my mum and my sister had been working on filling the whole ribbon with one picture each year.

In case anyone wants a little break, here are a few of my favorite facts that I learned in 2025, in no particular order.

Some trees benefit from, and may even encourage, getting struck by lightning because it kills their nearby competitors nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

I have a list, but I’ve been too distracted by everything that’s going on. But I think I’ll post it in a few. Thanks for the reminder.

Feel kinda brazen asking this, but... Will you happen to be posting your "most interesting facts I've ever learned" from 2025? I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your "favorite facts from 2024". Many thanks for the 2024 list!!

I'm going to keep talking up Tyrant Lizard Queen because I want the book to hit big in October.

It's got the latest T. rex science, of course, but also an enemies-to-lovers arc for our protagonist Snaggletooth and a rival rex. You've never read a dinosaur book quite like this one. 🦖
