I don’t think this is Carney's style, and it wouldn’t go over well in the court of Canadian public opinion. Carney won the election that Trudeau was predicted to lose by going all-in on standing up to the bully in the White House, and we’ve spent the last year boycotting U.S. products and travel.

McGowan: Why are you talking like that? It's insane. Your attitude is just horrifying…

Really can't stand the self-abasement of takes posing as the reasonable middle by conceding it'd be a sensible policy to purchase / annex Greenland so long as it wasn't by force, as if any of the nonsense reasons are compelling. Stop it. There is no reasonable version, that would still be idiotic.

Trump is manifestly insane and fixated on actions that will destroy the Western Alliance, severely damage the United States, and potentially trigger WWIII. The Republican Congress has ceded its constitutional authority to a mad king. And nobody appears to be willing and able to stop this madness.
American officers know what Trump is planning, and their minds will rebel at directives to take everything they’ve prepared to do for years and apply it backwards, against the allies they have trained to work with and protect.

Trump demanding control of Greenland—which the US already has access to—is based on multi-layered lies. Threatening NATO allies to get it undermines the Western alliance.

Geopolitical analysts always try to impose some sort of rational logic to the actions of the American President. With Trump, that approach is fruitless. He's not a rational actor; he's a mentally ill narcissist constantly lashing out based on a reality that exists only in his own disordered brain.
