Context for non-Canadians: in the Westminster parliamentary system, the budget vote is a “confidence vote.” If the government loses a confidence vote, it’s dissolved and a new election is called.

“The more I've learned, the less I believe [that power corrupts]. Power doesn't always corrupt. What power always does is reveal. When a guy gets into a position where he doesn't have to worry anymore, then you see what he wanted to do all along.”

When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

Absolutely this. It keeps being portrayed as a boycott - and maybe it is for some, but these stories are having a big influence.

Companies need stability and certainty to make long-term plans. A competent and patient dictator might be able to implement Trump's stated goals. It would be a horrible mistake, and it would leave the U.S. weaker and poorer, but it could be done. Trump is too A.D.D. to implement long term strategy.
why would someone spend millions on building a factory in the US under the presumption that US-made products will be protected if the protection comes and goes on a whim?

Trump's allies are now looting the U.S. treasury using his standard strategy, file a bogus lawsuit, then settle for an obscene pile of cash.

It's become very clear this year that Trump hates the post-WWII global order that the U.S. defined and benefited from. His worldview is based on a few regional empires carving up and dominating the world. In this worldview, Putin and Xi are his allies, everyone else must be subjugated.
Allies are assets, you idiots. Voluntary alliances were a crucial factor in winning WWII and the Cold War—dealing with just about any problem, really.
A big reason China is gaining is the US picked fights with nearly everyone at once, instead of rallying partners to confront China together. Fools.
Allies Are Assets, You Idiots
With their loose talk about Greenland, Canada, and the Panama Canal, Trump and his followers show they don’t get what we get from those relationships.

America's network of democratic alliances was a jewel. Never before had a great power relied on cultivating voluntary relationships, leading to the richest, most powerful country in history, and benefitting the world relative to the alternative.

Then America decided to throw it away. And for what?

If this is real, it could be a win/win for Canada and Sweden. Trump has made it clear that depending on the U.S. in the future would be a mistake. Building closer ties with Sweden and the EU in general just makes sense.
