Once again, the "don't tread on me" crowd is awfully quiet
American conservatives will look you right in the eye with a straight face and tell you that complete and utter subservience to masked federal police is patriotism, anything else deserves being executed in the street, and tax dollars for healthcare is tyranny.

Gentle reminder to check in with your body and take care of yourself. Our nervous systems are not equipped for a 24/7 firehose of terrifying information and taking some time and space to meet your needs will allow you to be ready for your leg of the relay. Hydrate, nap, eat, craft, be in community.

Good morning. I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to make a small gesture of kindness today. It's up to you to decide what that can be. The key is for you to act on the idea. With so much out of our control, we can choose how to be with each other today and every day.

There's a house in town that has a thought-provoking political sign that they change out fairly regularly. Today it said "what makes you think you won't be next?"
i think it is ok to reiterate that the victim as a us citizen. yes, noncitizens are equally entitled to human rights. but also, it's important to illustrate how ice isn't about immigration at all

This is heartbreaking, and also upsetting to see it amplified instantaneously when video shows her wife crying and talking about their kid at school. We have no idea what kind of family dynamics are at play and a same-sex partner is vulnerable to being muscled out of the story, so we should use care

I appreciated @kairyssdal.bsky.social 's note at the end of marketplace tonight about January 6th and the direct connection between the insurrection and the economy, democracy, and ultimately the people at the heart of keeping both running. Every news story is political AND a story of humanity

I just want people to remember that what this was was transparently obvious at the time and universally condemned. Hold on to that fact and don't let people change it under you.

Tried chatting with the (incredibly unhelpful but quaint) paramount+ chatbot* and it reminded me so much of smarterchild that I went down a nostalgia rabbit hole and found this lovely article: slate.com/technology/2...
It Was the ChatGPT of the 2000s. It Was Hugely Popular. Too Few Remember It Now.
SmarterChild taught a generation how to talk to machines.

Without health insurance
The CDC changed the universal vaccine schedule & no longer recommends

Rotavirus
Hepatitis A & B
Meningitis
Influenza
RSV

I’ve cared for previously healthy kids who died from RSV, influenza and meningitis.

We all are going to be caring for a lot more now.

Among the many reasons you don’t kidnap a foreign head of state at gunpoint even if you have the capability, is that it sparks consequences you can neither control nor anticipate.

People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.
January 3, 2026 at 2:01 PM
Genuine question: can Maduro cite Trump's own "you can't be convicted for acts conducted while you're president" ruling for this?
The US Attorney General confirms Maduro is being charged with "conspiracy to possess machine guns" - something Republicans usually call a constitutional right.

My Mayor Taylor story is that I was once in line behind him at Costco when he was getting his membership picture taken and he was having such a long and friendly convo with the employee about her daughter's Boston wedding that I assumed they knew each other. When it was my turn and I mentioned 1/2
Opinion | Mayor Taylor is tall and handsome. Here’s why that’s a problem for Mayor Taylor. #a2council
#a2council IMO, there's nothing worse than being a bad poster, and creating a copypasta that starts off by saying you main op is tall and handsome is some bottom tier stuff.

I think they took the wrong message from Beauty and the Beast
Easy to see the AI industry flailing — each new iteration introduces something altogether more deranged and useless. They’re desperate to convince you of use cases that simply don’t exist.

“A stapler who predicts your stapling needs!” What the fuck who needs that, just reach for the stapler jfc
Also, this just in -> the latest bizarre AI fever dream is AI-controlled trivets, staplers, and coffee cups on wheels. So we'll be chased around by inanimate wheeled objects clamoring for our attention.

Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.
