It's not a new observation at this point but that wild Noem/Lewandowski story in WSJ really brings home the extent to which all the Trump 2 cabinet-level goblins see their jobs as flying private, doing short-form video, and screaming at underlings. They all hate each other and none of them can read.

Just going to note again, because somehow we've all completely retconned this and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, that pound-for-pound Biden had one of the most draconian border security regimes of any U.S. president ever, second only to Trump, *many of whose policies he inherited and kept*
Not going to read them all because jesus fucking christ but this is nasty work from Friedersdorf

I was raised conservative evangelical. If you're wondering why evangelicals are not standing with Epstein survivors, just know I was told as a child to dress modestly so grown men wouldn't lust after me...

Hey friends! I’m trying to raise funds for a family in my neighborhood behind on rent. They have a 1-year-old and need at least one month’s worth asap to hold off eviction. If you can help, Venmo me any amount at @Terry-Horstman and I’ll post receipts as soon as funds are dispersed. ✌🏻 #AbolishICE

It is very clear just from the graph, and the spikes on the graph, that the anti-trans panic is literally just the Epstein class throwing chaff whenever they feel threatened.

Like you can literally see the Johnny Depp trial, in the spikes of transphobic garbage.

Alt text: a graph showing a massive spike in anti-trans articles per 30 days.

The x axis starts in 2012, most of the spike is just in the last decade

The spike really starts to kick in around 2017 or so, corresponding almost *perfectly* with powerful sexual predators feeling threatened by MeToo.
a stat i always cite is the number of anti-trans articles in the press went from 60 in a year, to 7,500

something from minnesota that i would like people to learn, that i don’t think is hitting people yet:

helping MN is good. people need it. but people in your community need mutual aid too. care. resources. food. outside of times of crisis.

and you can help.

It’s okay to be hopeful and believe that the worst is behind us. If we don’t hope, we wouldn’t be fighting to begin with.

Nobody who’s been immersed in this thinks it’s over. We all know it’s not. But you’ve gotta let people breathe a bit so everyone can keep going.

SMALL MEN OF BITTER DISPOSITION HAVE FROM TIME TO TIME DARED TREAD THE HALLOWED GROUND OF THE GREAT LOON BUT IN THEIR FOLLY NONE MAY MATCH THE GREAT FURY OF THE DARK AND RED EYED SPIRIT THAT SPREADS ITS WINGS IN JEALOUS CARE OVER THOSE WHO DWELL HERE. BLESS THE LOON. FEAR THE LOON.
My ABCs of talking about loons:
Always
Be
Converting people into loon worshipers
I am extremely biased, but the loon is the best.

Loons migrate to the Gulf of Mexico during the winter, where they are reportedly silent.

Their return in spring marks the end of repressive winters.

And when they arrive, they are LOUD. Their haunting calls are the soundtrack to Minnesota springs.

I'm sick that the real leaders will have their stories erased by a white man who did nothing to earn praise. Please please reconsider.

Jason, Elliot, Doron, Ilhan, and so so many others were there when we needed them. He was not.

One effect of the last two months I hope becomes permanent is that white Minnesotans — who blithely accept that Somali, Hmong, Latinx, and other immigrant communities share this space, but don't really engage with them — start to really see how rich this community can be when everyone is valued.

But also, probably for the rest of my life, I’ll keep a whistle in my pocket, one in the car, and one by the front door.

A few ways we will know ICE is actually gone:

• Commuters no longer report regular verified ICE sightings
• Abduction reports dry up
• Hotel and car rentals end
• Non-ICE federal employees are brought back to the Whipple

I think most of us cannot label our feelings “optimistic” because these agents moving elsewhere means they will be kidnapping folks we cannot defend because of proximity. So we are hoping our literal neighbors get some relief, but dreading the story as it moves elsewhere.

I recommend you continue your current plan until we can give you more information. We still need observers and the community to be on the lookout. These “draw-downs” are expected to continue through next week, which means we will still need help now and in the future. 6/

Mutual aid has to keep going for a while. Keep shopping at immigrant-owned businesses and pitching in to rent and grocery deliveries. And keep donating to legal funds because people are still detained.
Even when things die down a bit, the chilling effect on targeted communities (and their economies) persists. People are still cautious about leaving their homes, and I expect that will last for a long time, unfortunately.
