February 11th is the day when you want carnival food the most.

Give me something battered, fried, fried again, slathered in salsa, dump a scoop of grilled onions next to it, and in the corner the limpest stalk of barely-green celery the world has ever seen, just to throw the rest into stark relief.

I had an unpleasant task today, I needed documents printed, my printer was out of ink, and I'm in an ADHD spiral at this point. Time is running out, so I go to the library.

I needed a card (but they had visitor's passes) and it was $.15 a page (everyone gets $5 a day free). I love the library.

Age verification? I remember seeing cigarette vending machines, mimeographs, and punch cards.
Age verification?

I slept on a water bed - for years.
Age verification?

If you wanted to know a fact, you had to go to the library, or if you were lucky, pull out one of the musty old encyclopedia britannica volumes in the living room

It was a sultry night when Bobby Quine and I punched through to the white hot core of the internet, our 'trodes hanging loosely from our sweaty skin, the clouds hanging in the choking sky up among the tall corp towers.

There it is. End of a democracy. (I mean there's been a lot of last straws, but this one is really blatant.)

For the most part (with a few ostracized members who are wildly popular) the entire function of the Democrats is to protect the status quo for business, which owns them. The change needed in the government for it to be fair and equitable would be so disruptive to their owners, they can never do it.
Congressional Democrats constantly negotiate against themselves because accurately describing Republicans as enemies of the constitution makes them flopsweat that they are alienating "swing voters" so they immediately do whatever they can to get back to "bipartisan negotiation" framework
Dem leadership is still sleepwalking and negotiating against themselves while middle aged working people freezing their asses off on the streets of Minnesota figured this out long ago and aren’t planning on standing down or giving an inch.

That is not what happens in a civilized society.
Minnesota: "School officials say the [5-year-old] child was used as bait. They say [ICE] agents made little Liam knock on the door to ask to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home."

I can't believe that the violent, masked, armed troops roaming across the USA haven't tried robbing a bank yet.

Guns: check, masks: check. They walk around 2/3rds ready for a crime spree.

Steal some licence plates for your getaway rental SUV and that's an episode of Law & Order right there.

New band name, I called it.
With thousands of touchable specimens and objects featured in our new Nature Lab, we have thousands of stories we can tell! Swipe to see some of our Public Programs team’s favorite specimens and where to find them in the Nature Lab.

This has been a LOT of historical events in a row. Starting with one gorilla.
Me, reading and studying history: Haha fuck yeah!!! Yes!!

Me, realizing I am living through a historical event: Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.

When they make this anti-aging cartilage injection available for humans, I will ceremonially set fire to these stupid pads I have to wear to kneel on concrete.

Personally I just really love reading.

But I also adore libraries so go to your library this new year. They have all the books, you can request books and they nearly all have a online service for e books these days. #Libraries2026
