The Dow Jones is up 13% over the last year.

The US dollar is down -12% over the last year.
Bondi crashes out over Epstein: "The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That's what we should be talking about."

Execs no longer make a career at any one company, and couldn’t care less if it all burns when they cash out. As such, they aim for funding, vesting and ejecting. All they care about is stock price, hitting investment goals along the way, and their payout; the product isn’t even a consideration.
Between streaming, live service, and AI, businesses have just fundamentally forgotten how to make real money in favor of chasing theoretical money. And until business remember simple stuff like, "You can produce a cheap season of TV every year if you want" we're going to keep seeing layoffs.

Human minds work like this: we did the thing and the thing is good, therefore the thing will last forever.

The thing, however, will not last forever.

See journalism, taxis, the global order, Nazis are bad, the concept of a career, the concept or retirement, and pretty much everything else.

Star Wars (1977)
Popeye (1980)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Time Bandits (1981)
Poltergeist (1982)
Batman (1989)

I’m old.
Have asked this before and always like the responses. What are your biggest “I saw that in the first run cinema” flexes? Couple of mine:

Transformers: The Movie (1986)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Office Space (1999)

I've never known anyone who was obsessed with immigration who wasn't an out and out loser and an absolute racist bigot.

I'm saying it because it's simply not said enough.

All it took was absolutely shredding the constitution, destroying the post-war world order, ceding global hegemony, alienating every single ally you have, fielding secret police with death camps and decimating your agriculture, tourism and soft power.

Uh. Yay?

I guess.

In an entirely unrelated note did you know that chimpanzees will sometimes beat their resource-hoarding overlords to death and then eat them?

Huh.

This has been wildly obvious since they successfully slow-rolled a coup in January 2021.

I believe you will find (and it’s looking very much like you’ll find far too late) that your only real option is to fight your way out.

Peaceful protest will do absolutely nothing.
You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

The five key takeaways:

1. Your President is a pedophile
2. He bankrupted casinos
3. He doesn’t understand basic math
4. He is so corrupt on so many different axes it is impossible to say where he ends and corruption begins
5. Your President is a pedophile

The news folks is that only 181,000 jobs in 2025. Try to keep up.
Today, the January #JobsDay numbers came out and show the labor market rose with payrolls increasing by 130,000 & unemployment ticking down to 4.3%. Payroll growth was driven again by jobs in the health care sector (+82K). (1/6)

Even if it did anything beyond “autocomplete on steroids” it is wildly impossibly unprofitable and will not only continue to be so, but will become MORE UNPROFITABLE over time.

Every server that vast infrastructure spend has put in place? In 5 years you have to buy it again. And again. Forever.
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

I don’t know what I was expecting for MARTY SUPREME, but that, most definitely, was NOT it.

I quite enjoyed it, though, and it has, perhaps, one of the most what-the-fuck, out-of-nowhere throwaway lines from a character in history that has absolutely zero relation to the plot or the outcome.

Wow.

I love that the best threat people can give to explain why those in the Epstein files are not hunted down and prosecuted is: “Our entire system would collapse!”

Really? You mean this systems that’s going so great? Oh no.

Anyways.
