A little more specifically, people (including Democrats) have internalized the (phenomenally racial) idea that it's improper for Democrats to exercise power without asking permission from Republicans first

also an aside, a partisan political attack on our democracy was never going to have a non-partisan legalist solution, its a fundamentally a political problem
the theory behind the "investigation" of donald trump was that an event which had never before happened and which the entire conservative legal movement existed to prevent (the prosecution of a republican president for a crime) would occur mechanically by operation of law, without biden's approval.
Yep. Showing vigor and resolve, and also demonstrating that he was as bad as Biden and co said. Because if you're dumb, you might work backwards from what happened to "oh they were bullshitting, if he was really that bad he'd be in jail"

I guess we're just saying shit now

Imagine if, against expectations, the Trump administration succeeds in bringing dinosaurs back to life and creating a real-life Jurassic Park by 2028.

Do Democrats run in 2028 on closing it down?
Good God that is some brain rot

Radical liberalism was the ideology of the abolitionists, and is in many ways is the bedrock on which the modern American liberal left is built more than anything else.
Liberalism is a radical idea of universal liberation, even if most of its modern-day adherents are squishy opportunists who are simply echoing what they perceive as the prevailing ideology of their friends
I have come to understand that Will Stancil was always radical, he just wasn’t (likely, still isn’t) radical about the precise thing(s) a lot of us on here wanted him to be radical about.

Think the nascent Syrian lobby is learning the hard way in recent days that people like Lindsey Graham weren't really friends of Free Syria out of genuine revulsion towards authoritarianism (al Assad) but out of paternalism, the view that Syria is an informal colony of the US that Graham can dictate

2.) It won't attack because it was stopped.
3.) It being stopped will be used to tar people urgent about it being stopped as hysterics

There’s been negligible ICE activity in the most dense urban neighborhoods of Minneapolis, because they’d literally be outnumbered 5000 to 1 on every block. The idea of conducting this sort of operation in New York City is comical.
As a New Yorker, I wonder how this will play out if and when they blitz over here. In most NYC neighborhoods, there’s no shortage of people who fit their target profile. OTOH, the city’s so crowded and traffic’s so busy, it’d be hard to find solo targets and drive off like they’re doing elsewhere.

KARL: In the hours after the shooting of Renee Good, you went on national TV and said to ICE, 'get the F out of Minneapolis.' Do you regret that language? That doesn't sound like turning the temperature down

JACOB FREY: I don't regret it at all. If I seemed like I was angry and frustrated, I was.

Americans are going to have to learn that choices matter in a way that they haven't had to learn in a long time. They've been insulated from bad choices for decades but that is coming to an end.
Fundamentally the lesson American voters took from Trump I and Stop the Steal is that Worse Things Aren't Possible imo
The North Atlantic Treaty was, to be fair, on the ballot in 2016, ‘20, and ‘24 and a decadent voting public made some horrible choices.

Between Mamdani and Spanberger, the establishment of "instantly repeal all the bullshit the last pig put in place" as Democratic priority #1 for both democratic socialists and ex-CIA types is an extremely heartening development.
The first thing Virginia Spanberger did after being sworn in as Governor of Virginia was repeal Youngkin’s executive order requiring state and local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.

This is the kind of leadership Democratic governors nationwide should be emulating.

I’ve been thinking more about this. I think a failure to recognize that to truly follow Christ means willingness to die for others is the failure that underlies every other petty common uncharity and ordinary, defensible selfishness
can u imagine being not only a baptized christian but an ordained priest and then, when NPR asks you about the Bishop of New Hampshire's comments last week, what you find to say is "I didn't sign up to be a martyr"??
