GOP retirements ahead of looming wave?

Its uncanny how much this feels like the 2010-2014 GOP
The Dem Establishment's problem is that they can't stop having these moments. This comes right after refusing to side with Mamdani against Cuomo until the last moment (or never, even after the Trump endorsement, if you're Schumer!), which comes after voting en masse for all sorts of horrid noms...
one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

Those of us who are ex-Republicans who lived through the nutty wing of the party starting every government shutdown are getting a sense of deja vu now. This gambit has never been successful because of this basic point.
"A couple million people should just go without paychecks for however long it takes until either the Republican party decides it no longer hates the ACA or the 120th Congress is sworn" is not a viable or serious theory of victory, as more than a couple of us pointed out in Sept
Then why do the shutdown at all? What did it accomplish? The Democrats knew going into the shutdown that it would mean federal workers eat shit indefinitely - Republicans even cited it as a reason Democrats would break: and they were right!

40 men Trump sent to CECOT tell the NYT they were beaten, tortured, and sexually assaulted. The details are worse than you can imagine.

We can’t let them get away with this. Miller and the other architects of this sadism need to go to prison.

People were warned but they didn't listen
a big part of this is that a lot of people had a weird model that Trump II would be like Trump I and that there would be normal GOPers in charge of domestic policy
a lot of this, i think, is latino (and to a lesser extent, asian) voters realizing that the administration and the base are only going to get more radical on immigration + minority policy

Wonder if Rod talked about a certain problem thats cropped up in the online right with JD
incredible that these guys have a massive hard on for a country that, if it were a state, would rank behind kansas in terms of wealth and which would be a total backwater if it weren’t economically integrated with more functional countries

Everyone involved in this should be in prison
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.

Democrats didn't do a great job messaging about inflation last year but at least they didn't do whatever this is

Oof
The solution to the male loneliness epidemic is attending a local Democratic Party canvassing event.
WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.

Yeah Stephen keep it up, keep making the electoral backlash even worse
ICE detained a US citizen with a toddler in the backseat. ICE had to be bullied by the crowd to not do their usual MO and drive off with the man and just leave the car in the road. The crowd asked them to let the family come take the baby. Instead they drove off with the child

Per @votehub.com , this is perhaps the biggest sign of what happened tonight. In Union City, an 82% Hispanic City in Hudson County, Sherrill received more voted in AN OFF YEAR than Harris did last year.

I mean yeah it almost certainly is
JEFFRIES: We're seeing the Latino community is moving decisively in our direction, working-class Americans moving decisively in our direction--

JEFFRIES: Do you think that Abigail Spanberger and Mikie Sherrill just ran against Trump?

Yeah, we might start seeing more Republicans in Congress calling it quits after a night like this
Now, the question I have for the Republicans is, where do you go from here. Because, the voters are already incandescently mad at you, 10mo in.

How do you think the voters are going to feel after another 12 months of this, or 3 years of this, when you have midterms or the presidential election?
The voters, after 10 months of Republican government: holy fucking shit get me outta here
