Watched “Death by Lightning” last night. I don’t know enough about the period to speak to its historical accuracy — I doubt a drunk Chester A. Arthur ever rescued Charles Guiteau from arrest — but the broad strokes seem right and it’s an entertaining watch.

Normally I’d enjoy watching Aaron Rodgers play like that but I had to start him on my fantasy team this week since Mahomes is off.

I suspect a nationwide law telling states how to draw districts would be a much heavier lift than the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Who’s the hypothetical congressman who opposes preclearance but supports a national gerrymandering ban?

The discourse earlier this week on blocking and lists spurred me to check which ones I’m on. Most of them are innocuous follow lists — “New Mexico,” “local news,” etc. — but this one was pretty funny. This man is very mad about beans.

Spaghetti aglio e olio but add whatever other random leftovers I have in the fridge. Peppers, mushrooms, sausage, etc.
Also sometimes when I was single I would make rice and beans and mix in the cheapest pork shoulder I could find. Took a while to cook but it lasted for days.

SKS (Subway karabin sandwich).
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

At least experience is a fair question, unlike the article about Bowdoin, or the one about what box he checked on his college application, or the one holding up Portland as an example of the failures of socialism he would bring to New York.
(I agree with the quoted post just giving more examples.)

I genuinely wonder if anyone on the NYT editorial team looks at the Mamdani coverage in total and thinks "yeah, we got this one right"
The story on the eve of the election is basically reporters asking the public "is Mamdani experienced enough?"
No actual news.

My main gripe with Hamilton is it’s screwed up people’s perceptions of the First Party System. To the extent you can put them in modern boxes the Jeffersonians were the liberals!
That and I wish they hadn’t written out Adams, who was one of the more interesting thinkers out of the founders.

Los Angeles suffered tremendously because of the wildfires. The president of the United States has wanted to make the immigrants who make the city suffer and declared war on the city. But all throughout it, L.A. makes it work daily. It’s a place where people go to make it. LA deserves this.
