it's equal parts great and bizarre to see someone in office who seems genuinely proud to be a public servant
We're getting a snowstorm tomorrow. But New York City is prepared.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

I was thinking about this and while it is remarkable in some ways, it also makes complete sense that these brilliant and kind people would be the ones to show the moral courage to stand up to fascists in the first place
kind of remarkable how the two high profile ICE killings this year have been alex pretti and renee good, two people about whom NO ONE has ANY unkind words to say. if they could dig up anyone who would willingly talk shit on either person they’d have done it

I sure hope a bunch of people make themselves victims to Gregory Bovino by his standards very soon
BASH: It feels as though you're blaming the victim here

BOVINO: The victims are the Border Patrol agents. I'm not blaming the Border Patrol agents. The victims are the Border Patrol agents.

The media should cover sport the way they cover the state murder of civilians:

‘Jannik Sinner appeared to win the French Open yesterday after what supporters say was a comeback from being two sets down.’

As we grieve for Alex Pretti and Renee Good in MN, please do not forget Victor Manuel Diaz, who died in ICE custody after being taken from here. And all others who have died in their custody.
36-year-old Nicaraguan national Victor Manuel Diaz died in ICE custody on Jan. 14 at Camp East Montana in El Paso.

The Texas Nicaraguan Community on FB reports that his mom last heard from him on Jan. 6, when he told her he was planning to go to Minneapolis to start work in a restaurant. 1/3

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

There's also no way of explaining this to the non-terminally-online without sounding insane.

"...and so the penguin is a reference to American far-right memes calling for the US to take over Greenland."

"But penguins don't live in Greenland."

"I know."
It used to be said that the left was far too 'online', but it seems that this is increasingly (more) so for the right nowadays.

ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now
Our government is murdering the citizens of this country. They are doing it without any checks on their violence

The pain and the outrage is correct and just and I'm glad everyone can see and understand it here, and this is also already what BLM was, if you argued for training, police reform or body cams instead of abolition this is what you sounded like, this is why people were so mad at you

If this is what they do when they're out on the street with people pointing cameras at them, what do you think is happening inside the ICE prison camps that they keep denying Members of Congress access to?

For my followers in the EU, there is an European citizens’ initiative you can sign to demand the full suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
If you are for BDS this would be a huge step up.

It’s so funny that the Democratic resistance to people being extrajudicially executed in the street is “we won’t work with the Republicans on EVERYTHING anymore, just almost everything”
🚨 SCHUMER just now: “Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.”

Worth noting that one reason you’re benefitting so fully from the Star-Tribune’s timely, extensive coverage of unfolding events is that it’s a metro newspaper that hasn’t been systematically starved to further enrich shareholders and executives.

Imagine what’s happening in the camps.
Imagine how much they’d be lying about what happened without all the videos showing it from multiple angles.

Today's shooting happened because no one in power did shit about Jonathan Ross killing Renee Good. There are zero consequences for murdering people if you work for ICE. And they know it. And it'll happen again soon.

In 2023 the UK government legislated that veterans who, like US ICE officers, shot their fellow citizens dead, on camera - for protesting, would never answer in any court - Civil, Criminal or even Coroners. With no pushback from the left or electorate.

All three living Democratic presidents have said nothing about any of this. I don’t mean just today, I mean any of it. Obama’s last two tweets are about basketball and wishing his wife happy birthday. Nothing on Renee Good who was murdered 17 days ago

I know Americans find these texts really annoying but I don’t think you guys fully appreciate just how insane they are.

In my 34 years of living in Ireland and the UK, I have never once received a fundraising text from a politician or a political party. Not once
This is fucking gross
