So moved by the people of Minnesota who—drawing on LA, Portland, Chicago, DC etc—are writing a shining new chapter in the history of nonviolent resistance.

The rest of us need to be taking notes—and helping them!

This is an incredible thread. Read it all the way through.

We are seeing the worst of humanity every day, and it is truly terrifying and heart wrenching. We are also seeing the very best of humanity.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

This is why talks of training are so disingenuous. You can't train someone to have a soul. Someone who could willingly do this is soulless and any politicians who can continue to discuss anything other than the abolishment of this monstrous org is also soulless.
I guess I do think if you participated in the arrest of a five-year-old you are probably just fundamentally incompatible with society. That you are not a safe person for humanity to be around, generally

For those outside the Twin Cities, the person posting this GoFundMe is a member of Minneapolis city council (and among the many locals doing absolutely heroic resistance to ICE), so it's legit.
Please help us bring Liam Adrian Cornejo Ramos (he’s only 5 years of age and is currently in pre-K. Yesterday, he and his father were kidnapped by ICE. This will help the family with legal services to help reunite Liam and his dad with their family.

The most disturbing new trend in ICE behavior is agents escorting legal observers who are out patrolling our neighborhoods to their home, stopping, exiting the vehicle and pointing at their house. The message they're sending is pretty clear.

Agree with this. I'd also add that we have a limited picture of what activism looks like & who an activist is, & this is does not at all capture the breadth & depth of activism that is happening in multiple spaces & temporalities. Sick & disabled activists demonstrate this in numerous ways.
I continue to be, let's say 'annoyed,' at nat'l coverage that posits "Americans" are reacting w/ passivity. Most leaders may be, but I spend every day talking to ordinary people taking extraordinary steps to protect their families, communities and countries. National media just missing the story.
Here @ashleyrparker.bsky.social tries to explain the peculiar passivity with which America has greeted naked authoritarianism.

There is one word in the English language that explains what Minneapolis is experiencing right now: tyranny.

We are under assault by a tyrannical government and its little jackbooted commandant. We are going to keep fighting, and we will win, stand with us.

They clearly believed that Minneapolis would riot after they killed one of us. We didn’t, we organized. We followed them, we monitored them. We alerted our neighbors. We fought them in the courts. And now they’re desperate, so they’re brutalizing us, without a hint of legitimate government purpose.

They are trying to whip people into a frenzy, in the hopes that someone will do something violent, or we’ll riot, and give them an excuse. It’s not a coincidence that JD Vance is coming tomorrow. Again, every journalist on the ground knows this, but we’ll see if their editors will let them say it.

If you’re on the ground, it is absolutely unmistakable what they’re doing. Bovino has gone to multiple gas stations, with a massive convoy, gotten out of the car, and strolled into the street and posed for ten minutes at a time. No gas, no food, no bathroom. Just over and over in sequence.

This has to be one of the most tone-deaf posts ever posted by a politician.
It would be bad if this was a Democrat posting this from a different state not under siege by ICE Gestapo. But from a senator from Minnesota, it's totally bonkers.
Yes it’s cold in Minnesota—but we embrace it. John and I were in Hastings with Mayor Fasbender for Hockey Day Minnesota to watch my alma mater, Wayzata High School, take on Rogers. Photo taken with parents right after their son scored a goal!

I am proud of this school district's leaders speaking out in detail about these horrors occurring in Columbia Heights, a suburb of Minneapolis.

May the mainstream media actually *cover* this story now, because this is just breathtaking evil that's occurring.
Columbia Heights school district confirms a 5-year-old child detained by federal agents. He and his dad were at their home after coming home from preschool. The agent then took the child to the door of the home and told the boy to knock and ask to be let in, “essentially using a 5-year-old as bait.”

Is it @startribune.com policy to refer to anyone confronting ICE as a protester? This obscures the nature of what people are doing. We're not protesting ICE. We're constitutional observers documenting human rights abuses by agents of the state.
