Haven't been able to cry since December, and today the waterworks finally hit and keep coming. And strangely, it's not yet been despair.

After 15 days, county medical examiner classifies Renee Good’s death as ‘homicide’
Homicide means the death came at the hands of another person and does not necessarily mean the person died from a criminal act.

In 10 states, people convicted of felonies lose their right to vote, permanently.

In 15 states, they lose it while incarcerated and for some time after.

In 23 states, they lose it while incarcerated.

All of those people are people too.

It's in our suburbs and small towns, too.
I cannot emphasize this enough. If you live in a city, ICE IS COMING TO YOU. Get to know your neighbors now. Start signal chats now. Figure out what you can do well and get to it. See what other cities have done and well and replicate it.
This is also where you have to get your seeds of community in the ground while the ground is soft. Don’t wait until the goons are at your neighborhood schools to figure out who’s going to walk your dog/mind your baby/get everybody fed.

Yesterday, I drove refugees that had been shipped off to Texas all the way back home to St. Paul

Seeing them reunite with their families reminded me this is their home.

So keep sending them to Texas. I’ll keep driving ‘em back and introducing them to Bucc-ee’s and KC barbecue along the way.

We're going to bring them all home.

Black Hart is one of the best queer bars in the Twin Cities.

My fellow queers, let's help feed someone who has kept us fed!
One of the taco trucks who serves on our patio (not the tues/fri, but more irregularly) reached out. The owner & his family have been unable to work for over a month and are struggling. We have confirmed this venmo. If you want to “buy lunch” from them, please do.

For people asking “why isn’t there a general strike?” earnestly, and not just to be a judgmental prick
Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since.

That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

Things I learned in the '21 TX freeze:

- looser clothing keeps you warmer (sweatpants > yoga pants)
- put a sheet OVER your comforter on your bed
- drape a sheet around drafty doors, roll a towel on thresholds
- keep curtains and blinds closed
- use one or two rooms, close up rest of your home
Hi, for those of you unfamiliar with this sort of weather

-if the power goes out, trying to heat your home with the clay pot + candle method is not a great idea, try personal warmth (ie blankets) and blocking and sealing drafty areas instead if you can
Widespread freezing rain and sleet are expected south of the primary snow axis. Significant and damaging ice accumulations are likely, with the potential for long-duration power outages, tree damage, and dangerous travel conditions.

That's not the MN State flag anymore.
A major reason for the change was specifically blatant racist, anti-Indigenous imagery.
It is a specific choice to use this flag.
Minority extremists use the old flag as a dog whistle.
The Vice President is prominently dog whistling.

Everything about what ICE is doing to Minnesotans is awful. The human impact is almost unimaginable. It's also expensive as hell.
Our report estimates that taxpayer expenses total at least $18 million per week:
- $8.9 million in ICE and CBP personnel compensation
- $4.5 million for lodging + meals for federal agents
- $1.6 million in detention costs
- $3 million in local police overtime

People are having to rely on their neighbors to buy and get them food because of ICE because they are too afraid to leave their house. Stopping ICE’s terror campaign *IS* an affordability issue!
People are waving around 50/50 polling on abolish ICE and in the same poll Trump’s is like 30 points under water on affordability. It’s not at all crazy for professional politicians to think there’s a bigger advantage in talking about the latter!
