A strong atmospheric river will continue heavy rain over southern CA through Fri with flash and urban flooding possible. A prolonged heavy snowfall has begun over the Sierra Nevada Mountains as well, and will continue through Fri. Travel will be increasingly difficult over the passes. weather.gov

More than 50% of all flood fatalities are vehicle-related. You never know how deep the water is or if the road has been washed away or compromised beneath the water. Don’t risk driving into floodwaters. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

Unseasonable warmth is forecast across a large portion of the Lower 48 this week. High temps will soar to 30-40 degrees above normal, with some areas as much as 50 degrees above normal. Dozens of daily temp records could be broken.

A rare High Risk has been issued:
"This will pose a significant threat of flash flooding, landslides, rock falls & mud slides. The greater than normal travel during the Christmas Holiday will potentially expose a larger number of people to these life threatening hazards." -NWS Forecast Discussion

Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations this week (Dec. 22-26) across portions of California. Mud and debris flows will be possible across foothill and mountain areas, including recent burn scars.

Active pattern to continue for the West Coast with heavy rainfall and higher elevation heavy snow over the next couple of days. Flood potential will increase across central/northern California on Sunday and Monday with several inches of rain forecast.

During a flood, water levels & the rate of flowing water can quickly change. You are safest staying indoors or seeking higher ground if shelter isn’t available. If you’re outside when a flash flood occurs, do not attempt to cross flood waters by vehicle or on foot.

A damaging windstorm today will contribute to Extremely Critical fire weather conditions. Wind gusts up to 100mph, temperatures near 70F, and relative humidity near 10% will yield high-end fire weather environment along/near the Front Range. Stay aware& follow instructions from emergency officials.
