Today, 25 Jan 2026, is World Leprosy Day (#WLD). On the last Sunday in January, we are asked to remember that leprosy (a.k.a. Hansen's Disease, which I'll come back to) still exists in the world today. Recognizing its continued existence is our 1st step in addressing the stigma still clinging to it.

Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.

This is one that stands out:

Living under occupation really will fuck with your time horizon. Why go to the effort of picking a new mirror when you might be shot dead tomorrow?
"I am disgusted. I am on patrol from 10:45 to noon today and every conversation feels like my last. Every goodbye is a final goodbye. I don't know what mirror to buy for the bathroom because it ultimately doesn't matter. Nothing does... We have to do it all over again tomorrow. It's impossible...

Everyone has a part to play. Even—especially—the person who moderates the subreddit for videos of people patting their cat on the butt really rapidly.
This is an excellent example of someone using their power to shun those that deserve it.

2/ Some will say, "Well, they don't feel shame anyway." Yes they do. Everyone does. It's a psychological pain, and I want that pain to be intolerable. I want society to reject them. You don't get to claim you support this administration and are still "a good person." No. It's over. Be gone. END

1/ Another pressure point outside of a general strike is the public and private shunning of anyone who still supports this administration. I made a clear "MAGA not welcome here" policy long ago, and that has included family members. They need to feel societal pressure. They need to be shamed.

This exceptional photo from David Guttenfelder drives home the point that these are not law enforcement officers; they are an untrained street gang doing the bidding of their fascist leaders.

One little thing you can do if you’re feeling helpless tonight: throw a few bucks to the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota. They’re reportedly stretched thin for obvious reasons and could use some help if you can offer it.

I really need people who see this to ask themselves what good reform is going to do. Another law on the books? A constitutional amendment?

What does that matter when the people in charge of the agency are hyping them up and telling them to do violence and that they are inherently immune if they do?
We should not fund DHS without serious reform. We could return CBP to border. We could require warrants for immigration arrests. We could beef up training and require identification.

The list of possible reforms is long. What's unacceptable is the current lawless status quo.

hard to separate this in my head from what RFK is doing too. all-out assault on every front against the very idea that everyone - every single person - deserves access to care, that care should never be withheld or leveraged as a tactic to get rich or get your way
The first Minnesota murder, they refused to let a medical professional help the woman they shot. The second Minnesota murder, they simply shot the medical professional.

Man, everywhere you look lawyers are still flinging themselves into fights. I know some people will disagree about the usefulness of taking shit to court but I think it's important that we're still doing that. We're still behaving as if the law has meaning.

Yes actually I can blame the person who gets a paid a lot of money to kill their neighbors.
Instead of blaming the indivuduals, blame the system that led people to joinung ICE. You cant blame a person for joining a govt agency awarding huge bonuses and 50k a year, when Americans are struggling to make ends meet. By having Empathy we win in the long run. Stop behaving like the other side

"Thou shalt not murder" is also a thing.
Religion note: those who have been protesting DHS/ICE in the streets — those Sec. Hegseth labels “lunatics” here — have included hundreds of clergy *just this week.* religionnews.com/2026/01/23/i...

This is courage. Looking a masked, government fascist dead in the eye, face to face, knowing full well that your life is on the line.

If elected officials had 1/10th of Alex Pretti's resolve, we would have far fewer troubles.

- emailing US companies ( Hilton, home depot, etc )
- canceling credit cards or rewards cards with US companies
- fight disinformation
- talk about why immigration is GOOD actually!
