Hi everyone!
I'm a planning professor at the University of Waterloo, researching housing, transportation & how they relate to each other.
I'm moving from Twitter & I'll post more here soon.
Here are links to some stuff I've written:

It was a very good day. Pretty fast even on the surface. And likely to get better.
We enjoyed our opening day ride and can’t wait to use it to get around the city (the connection with the Kitchener Line is a game changer for us!)

Yes. And much faster too.

We were very impressed overall. Stations were very good, the line was fast. Frequent service. Enjoy your ride!
McMaster University has posted the email written by the professor to Canadian figure skater Maddie Schizas, granting her an extension on her assignment.

“I’d say focus on the competition right now, and submit it directly to me when it is done”

This is a really lovely note.

Lots of people out riding line 5 today. And many there just to see the new trains. One of my favourite photos from the day.

57 minutes from Kennedy to Mount Dennis.
Much faster than the bus. A couple of missed lights early on but much quicker than Finch.
Service and speeds should get better soon.
A huge game changer for transit in Toronto. It will reshape the geography of the city very quickly!

The panorama seats are the place to be! No views like this on any Toronto transit vehicle.

Hello line 5!

Today’s the day! Buses along Eglinton are now in the past. The future belongs to the LRT!
Tomorrow marks the most significant transit expansion in Toronto in 60 years with the opening of the Eglinton LRT. Today marks the last day where the 32 Eglinton West bus ruled the road!
Here are some bus pictures from last Tuesday at Keele, Blackthorn, Reggae Lane & Oakwood

A new era begins tomorrow on Eglinton! And an old one ends. Some more photos of the 32 bus, which will cease to exist east of Mount Dennis when the LRT starts running.
Photos from Glenholme, Oakwood, the Eglinton Theatre and Highbourne.
Enjoy the LRT rides tomorrow!

On Sunday, Line 5 Eglinton opens! To better understand this corridor, we layered the route alignment relative to surrounding building footprints; space for cars, bikes & pedestrians; zoning; green space; pop. density; household income & senior populations https://ow.ly/ojyb50YaunQ

A good article on rent control with a number of different perspectives on the issue.

That’s quite the snow pile in the College Street bike lane.

"Couple excited to move to the big city and experience the exact same retailers as their current suburb but in cute buildings."

TTC streetcar line openings are a bit like TTC streetcar line operations:
You wait years for one line to open and then another comes along right after that!

Looking forward to another opening day ride this Sunday! And also excited about the direct connection to the Kitchener Line at Mount Dennis

It’s not a good sign when even the trip planner is down. I hope GO will get that derailed train back on the tracks soon. Until then, I’ll drive into town. (Or at least to a subway station!)

Congratulation to Team Einarson on winning the Scottie’s tonight. A very exciting game and well deserved win.
And thank you to the champions and all the other teams for taking the time on Thursday to sign autographs with young fans. My 7YO son has some great memories from his day at the Scottie’s

Winter is good. My opinion column this weekend in the Toronto Star, Canada’s most powerful newspaper.

It’s almost as if the pandemic, which forced us outdoors, has given us permission to final enjoy winter.

What a group. And this photo doesn't even include Martin Short or Harold Ramis.
❤️
Wild that there was an open lane called "what if we just explain things clearly to people?" and he's the first one to ever fill it
The City’s Budget is our future. And you deserve to know how it works.

What a great day of curling at the Scottie’s in Mississauga.
Three generations of Doucets were there to cheer on the teams.
My son got autographs from every team! Thanks to all teams-win or lose- who stuck around after games to meet with young fans. They will remember this day for a long time!

Good night from downtown Kitchener!

Today was a good day to go for a walk and blaze a new trail! (Or at least rediscover one buried under snow!)
