Today is the birthday of artist Joe Maneely (Feb. 18, 1926-June 7, 1958). Most known today for his prolific work at Marvel in the 1950s, during which time he cocreated Jimmy Woo, the Yellow Claw, and Marvel's original Black Knight. Sadly, he was killed in an accident at the age of only 32.

Elton Fax (Oct. 9, 1909-May 13, 1993) was a cartoonist, illustrator, and teacher. He worked on pulp magazines and comic books, and in 1942, created the comic strip Susabelle, about a young girl. He wrote and illustrated over 30 books on various topics, including Black history. #BlackHistoryMonth

Today is the anniversary of the Phantom, created by Lee Falk. His daily newspaper strip was first published on February 17, 1936, and a color Sunday strip followed on May 28, 1939.

Today is the birthday of comic book artist Nina Albright (Feb. 15, 1907-Feb. 7, 1997). She worked for a number of companies during the Golden Age, including Fiction House, Timely/Marvel, St. John, & Archie.
