it’s instructive to compare this to his meeting with gretchen whitmer. i do think the cards were stacked more against her because of his longstanding hatred of women, but she got rolled, used as a prop, and embarrassed. mamdani didn’t
yeah here it comes

The amount of people persevering still making things, engaging. The cards are stacked in such a weird way. Just try to keep swimming

Our entire economy is a house of cards stacked on top of some data centers that are balancing on top of an AI bubble like bears at the circus running on top of giant balls while wearing tutus

These are most--if not all--of my Randy Jones baseball cards. Growing up in New York, he was one of those players I wish I got to see more of.

(forgot alt text -- a beige table with a circle of six player setups for the aforementioned game: cardboard circles, player aid cards, and two central circles with two kinds of tokens stacked on them).

Can I say that if I had all my grades filed, my home in absolute apple pie order, all outdoor chores covered, a book ms on the way to a press, all my god damn Christmas cards mailed, three cords of wood dried and stacked, and all my bills paid...

I was very good. (Also I'd already paid for the octopus kit.

Another excerpt from Children Of Memory by @aptshadow.bsky.social.

I'm really close to the end now, and I'm going to have a lot to say about this series then, but for now I just want to say that Tchaikovsky is an expert at the raw art of putting words in order to craft a sentence.

Complaining about structural issues is a bad look. It tells the opposition you aren’t interested in changing their vote, only in making it count less. And it tells your own supporters it’s not worth voting because the cards are stacked against you.

The easy issue here is not about Epstein’s emails but that there are different rules for the rich

It’s a simple message, “you feel like the cards are stacked against you and you’re right. We are going to change that”

Jess speaks as he places down two stacked cards, “Yu’Ju did most of it. They got the boar, and I taught them how to start the fire. Left me on roasting it haha.”

Yu’Ju doesn’t say a thing, they’re too concentrated on the game.

Be me parking lot security guard today. A wild homeless thief appears! He's ripping through packs of stolen Pokémon cards.

ME: Do you know which ones are good?

THIEF: No, but they all sell.

ME: Your assets are depreciating while stacked on my asphalt. GTFO.

THIEF: Can I have a bag?

Now THAT is how you experiment with the medium.

To everyone at @imagecomics.com who made this possible, thank you. What a creepy little treat!

A couple of folks can no longer make it tonight (see?! Adults are harder to herd than cats 😅), so we're keeping Last Night on Earth for next week and playing some smaller games tonight instead - starting with Forbidden Island.

My in-laws had a copy of the April 11, 1955 issue of Life Magazine lying around, and it features this really splashy, triumphant coverage of the polio vaccine’s rollout. It’s kind of startling to read in the context of all the current vaccine rollbacks and conspiracy driven pessimism

dumb fun fact of the day: the dealer can have at most 11 cards in blackjack. this is what that'd look like

It's been a half hour since the AP called it for Mamdani and already I see some people wringing their hands about how the cards are stacked against him, and to them I say, my friends, learn to enjoy a fucking moment, they didn't come around near enough, the man of the hour is partying, take the hint

These babies will be sitting on my side table until the first week of December, and then they'll be mailed all across the world. Including Australia!

Final entry into the company pumpkin contest.

We were given one (1) pumpkin and told to decorate it. This is what happened.

Told you we were hardcore.

It amazes me how season after season Meredith seems to always have a hard hat on for Lisa. She can never admit when she thinks the cards are stacked against Lisa. She always dances around it with responses like “I would hope that’s not true, but I don’t know. I need more information” #RHOSLC
