Genuinely makes me wonder if people have ever met an alcoholic before
maybe the most upsetting and nefarious thing that the NYT does here, backed by predictable quasi-prohibitionist healthcare sources and reporting, is insist on equating cannabis addiction to alcohol addiction, in terms of severity or damages. It’s frankly offensive to anyone who grew up with drunks.

The @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social portal that drew 80,000 enthused NYers to city government has resulted in just 31 hires, largely because most city jobs are civil service.

To me, this was a lost opportunity to draw talent & skills to NYC.

I admit to being confused by some of the discourse re: protest on here. Community defense and mutual aid can in fact be forms of protest.

Definition of protest is: "a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something."

Community defense is an objection to something, for ex.

the number of academics who were in touch with Epstein really puts the (elite) backlash to Title IX's enforcement against sexual violence into perspective.
DiChristina also invited Epstein to attend an editorial meeting for the Scientific American, where she worked as editor-in-chief.

Correspondence from 2010 also showed DiChristina on a guest list for a meeting on “the islands,” though it was not immediately clear what Epstein meant by “islands.”

Important to run a candidate who has actually held elected office in New York before, i.e., someone who has even the vaguest chance of winning
As someone who was up close + active in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 races, I can tell you from direct experience that the Dem primary for governor is the single-most important determinant of NY's political direction for the next 4 years. If we don't fight this year, NYS will likely move to the right.

I feel like what we consider reactionary is what they consider tech optimism
my theory why tech bros have gone insane is that tech optimism was their fuel for awhile. that began to fade as the future was looking less utopian and was obviously always about getting infinite money. when the public began to turn on big tech, tech turned to reactionary ideology to fill the void

This is the correct frame—SRG as the specific organizational unit is not the issue, it’s the people in the unit and their actions that are the issue
The calls are growing louder to disband the brutal and unaccountable Strategic Response Group once and for all. But former Officer Raganella is right: We must go even further and ensure that the SRG can't be re-formed under a new name.

That's where the CURB Act comes in.
He helped create an NYPD unit to respond to protests. Now, he's calling for its overhaul.
The NYPD’s Strategic Response Group has been criticized by civil liberties groups and others who have accused officers of brutality while responding to protests.

Along with the movement that powered our campaign, it's how we secured a historic agreement on childcare. And we're just getting started.
