Hudson Valley. Road-trip taker, travel-goal chaser: NPS (57/63 | 238/433); NY state parks (106); MLB (30/30 and SABR member), MiLB (61/120), & NFL (32/32) stadiums; ski areas (69); beer; Americana. Oh, and STM publishing
The #NYGiants had that 10-pt road lead, and I almost posted about how maybe today could end with them actually holding on to it.
Before I could type it out, the lead is down to 3 with plenty of time left
Sigh.

These are the seven National Parks I haven't visited yet. 2025 was the first year since 2014 where I didn't get to a new one or two. Or four.
I hope to shorten this list a bit next year.

These are most--if not all--of my Randy Jones baseball cards. Growing up in New York, he was one of those players I wish I got to see more of.

Introduce yourself with the last 5 concerts you saw.
Hmmm...if I recall correctly (and I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting one or two between these...)

Frank Turner
Richie Havens
Glenn Tilbrook
Gordon Lightfoot
John Entwistle
Introduce yourself with the last 5 concerts you saw.

The Darkness
The Dollyrots (twice)
Smoking Popes/The Get Up Kids
The Handcuffs
Textbook

I used to go to concerts way more often. But since people can't be trusted to not vape at shows, I had to go all the way back to 2023 to get five.

-Cake
-Trampled By Turtles & The Avett Brothers
-Pennywise & Dropkick Murphys
-The Buzzcocks & Descendents
-Social Distortion & Bad Religion

I've caught myself transposing letters when typing on a full keyboard, and it's usually my right hand hitting a key before one that my left hand should've hit. Next thing I know, I'm googling typing sites and find a left-hand words typing test. I hit 63 WPM. I'll take it. 😂

Yes, it's #NationalHikingDay. Throwing it back to my June trip, which included this stop and hike at the Buffalo National River.

Another fourth quarter lead blown, but at least this one was under 10 points...that's all I've got.
It ain't easy Bleeding Blue...

Ya know, Bobby Witt had a great season last year and of course Cal Raleigh had a great one this year, but I think they got the voting right each time, and I'd like to think I'd feel that way if I didn't bleed pinstripes...

That was incredible! A lot of fun to watch, with some crazy, sensational and gutsy plays. Best World Series I can remember in a long time.

Congrats to the Dodgers and their fans.

Burl Ives, The Ventures and Johnny Cash all did fine versions of "Ghost Riders in the Sky", but the Outlaws might be my favorite one...

Q10. Halloween candy, pumpkin spice this or that. And pies! Connect any NP site to seasonal food or beverage. #parkchat

Q9. Howling and growling creatures. Wolves, coyotes, bear, mountain lions—Share a story or picture of an encounter with one of these critters. The scarier—but not too scary—the better… #parkchat

Q8. Caves are dark with some very tight spaces. I got a demo of the total darkness in Jewel Cave NP. That didn’t bother me. But, the thought of squeezing into a really tight crevice or passageway does. Who has or would brave cavern areas beyond the main chambers? #parkchat

Q7. Did you really think there wouldn’t be a cave question or two? I mean, come on, that would be batty. How many of the caves/cavern sites have you been to? Any on your bucket list? Bonus points for bat pictures. #parkchat

Q6. Many of the National Historic sites feature very old buildings and homes. Tell us about a visit to one of these sites with squeaky floors or that in some way gave you the creeps. #parkchat

Q5. No doubt, some of the Civil War battlefield sites feel haunted. Do any stand out to you more than any others? #parkchat

Q4. Let’s go the other way: you’re on a trail. It’s cold; light is becoming scarce; you might be in trouble. Which #parkchat regular would you want by your side?

Q3. Which #ParkChat regular--old or new--do you think would be most scary to encounter on the trail?
October 30, 2025 at 1:15 AM
Q2. You’re in your tent in a campground in one of our parks. It’s the middle of the night. There’s a full moon. You hear a branch snap, a twig break, or something crackling. Do you roll over and go back to sleep or do you investigate? #ParkChat

Q1 #ParkChat What is your favorite holiday, and why is it Halloween?
But seriously, do you enjoy Halloween, or would you rather skip over and get to the two bigger year-end holidays instead? Do you make park visits part of any year-end holidays? @59nationalparks.bsky.social @tthrash.bsky.social

Welcome, #ParkChat. There's so much going on out there right now of course, but hope we can create a diversion for the next hour.
And, if you're watching baseball, enjoy the game too.
Anyway, Halloween is almost here, so let's go!

Road trip idea for 2026: Three MiLB venues, one NHL rink, and two NPS sites. I think I can, I think I can...

This year @tthrash.bsky.social carry’s on one of #ParkChat’s many traditions when he presents “Spooky Chat”. I’m hoping we have a few surprises but no bumps guaranteed. Costumes encouraged. Please join us. #Halloween
