I spent my late 20s hoping someone would fall in love with me on the subway because I was reading Célan Thackeray or Turgenev the entirety of Philip Roth’s oeuvre and no one did and I regret none of it
( now I really read mostly women, and, no regrets there either )

Liberalism is a center position on the political spectrum, answering yes on the political question (whether people ought to have formal equal legal rights) but no on social questions (should people be actually equal? right to food/housing/healthcare). But when I explain it to students I feel insane

I have been following national Congressional politics since I was a teenager in Obama I. This is how it always works. Regardless of their actual seat totals, The Democrats "somehow" always have just enough moderates (not too many or too little) that they concede to the GOP on every major issue.
