Heinz got that ultra processed HFCS (that bad bad), chemically engineered to reach that “Bliss point”

This is a post for all the people with the palate of a toddler eating “chicky nuggy” into adulthood and thinking it’s a normal diet. (Obviously, if it’s good for the president, it’s good for them!)

Because I wanted to be sure, I checked, and I mistook sucrose for glucose. Roughly: Sucrose is 50/50 fructose and glucose bound together. HFCS has some free fructose on top of that, and is the sweeter of the 2 because of that.

Oh, well, uh, thanks for sharing. Not sure what it has to do with differences between ketchup brands or recipes, especially considering that hfcs and cane sugar are more or less nutritionally equivalent in equivalent amounts

HFCS is not any worse than other sugars. You're being led to believe scare tactics.
November 10, 2025 at 10:06 PM
I do find it funny though that this all started with Jell-O, which might contain a disturbing amount of sugar, but Not! from HFCS

ICYMI: "Harmful greenhouse gases used in commercial and industrial refrigeration, and in air con & heat pump units will be phased down more quickly & extensively under ambitious plans outlined by the Govt to reduce emissions."

Consultation launched today for a near-full phase-out of HFCs by 2048
Reforms to go further in phasing down of harmful greenhouse gases
Consultation launched on a more ambitious phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons commonly used in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems

Labour have announced they will phased down harmful greenhouse gases (hydrofluorocarbons / HFCS) used in commercial & industrial refrigeration, and in air conditioning and heat pump more quickly.

The consultation on the plans would see more ambition targets from 2027 & extend them to 2050.

Pondering total HFCS in the amount of Push Pops and Airheads I ate as a young teen in the mid/late 90s makes my head swim, but okay kids.
80% of the food I ate when I was 9 years old in 1998 was blue
A friend showed me this screenshot and I started cackling, I was staining my tongue three different colors with OtterPops in 1998 are you fucking kidding me

Bsky tastes like HFCS today...

a day, EASILY, if not more. At least for myself, cutting out as much HFCS has cut down DRASTICALLY on the amount of blind consumption I have for 'things'. That shit is in EVERY fast-food/takeout/chain-restaurant meal you can imagine. Between that and sodium reduction, yeah.

I had a gf in the US years ago and tried to share a lot of my favourite candy/food down there and it was all pretty bad. Fake flavours and sweetened all the way to 11 with a lot more HFCS than here. I realize we call it 10 different things here but it was obviously used a lot more in products there.

Does the soda category include all fizzy drinks?

Because if it's just HFCS-laden crap, then yes, ditch it. If it includes La Croix, ginger ale, etc, then no.

Why yes, I do overthink things, why do you ask?!?
October 27, 2025 at 8:51 AM
You can't test it. Cane sugar and HFCS break down into the same stuff in an acidic environment, which soda has because of the carbonation. There is no difference between the two once it's in the final product.
October 24, 2025 at 8:13 PM
ur not in the US tho, how common is HFCS-sweetend soda down there?
October 24, 2025 at 7:03 PM
every time i see someone describe HFCS as fake sugar i want to slap them with a chemistry book.
October 10, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Saw a video today of someone testing the difference between regular coke and "Mexican" coke and it turns out they're actually not very different at all. The cane sugar ends up just breaking down into the same stuff as HFCS in the acidic coke anyway

where does “New Coke was a plot to get us to accept inferior-tasting HFCS in Coke Classic” fit in?

The Trump Administration is loosening the rules on HFCs. Here's how they compare to other greenhouse gases.
October 9, 2025 at 4:04 PM
I don't hate that there are articles talking about the environmental impact of HFCs and the ongoing project of switching inhalers away from them as a propellant. These are worthy goals! But it is absolutely berserk to frame this as somehow the fault of the people using the inhalers.

Trump wants more climate wrecking gases, called HFCs in our air. Even the industry that uses them objects! HFCs are more potent than carbon in gassing up climate change. So of course, Trump’s EPA is pulling back on a recent rule that requires phasing out HFCs.
October 5, 2025 at 11:27 AM
The EPA proposed rolling back a '23 decision to reduce hydrofluorocarbons in cooling and refrigeration systems. It would allow HFCs till 2032, but manufacturers resisted, as they have already invested in greener technology. HFCs can be over 100000x worse than CO₂.

Trump administration wants to roll back regulations on HFCs (very potent greenhouse gases) OVER THE OBJECTIONS OF THE APPLIANCE INDUSTRY.
Here’s why one industry is worried about Trump’s latest climate rollback
The Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday that it would rewrite a Biden-era rule aimed at limiting hydrofluorocarbons, a potent greenhouse gas.

Just fyi corn and soy are primary inputs for animal feed so if you consume meat…also, HFCS is used as a sweetener in innumerable products. So most everyone does consume these products, though perhaps not in their primary form.
