A *ton* of autism focused groups are struggling financially this year as the federal government attacks the community. The Somali Parents Autism Network here in Minnesota supports Somali families in providing culturally competent resources on autism for them. They need $25,000 by year end.

Wait do I have it correct that Joyce Carol Oates said Musk was a shell of a man with no joy in his life and he totally saw it and said "No I'm not" and now he's searching the titles of different movies he likes and replying "great movie"

Teen Vogue was so welcoming to teen We Testify storytellers as they broke new ground. It’s disgusting to see how Condé Nast is destroying some of the best journalism. Young people deserve news and info that educates and uplifts them. Thank you Teen Vogue writers for the way you changed the world.

Pondering total HFCS in the amount of Push Pops and Airheads I ate as a young teen in the mid/late 90s makes my head swim, but okay kids.
80% of the food I ate when I was 9 years old in 1998 was blue
A friend showed me this screenshot and I started cackling, I was staining my tongue three different colors with OtterPops in 1998 are you fucking kidding me

I like to think that this map of all the regional names for woodlice in the UK could also be a map illustrating the new tribes of humans to be found on the same landmass after The Great Digital Crash and ensuing breakdown of society.

Hi all, I lost my income last month while I had COVID, and while I have returned to work, there is a huge hole in my household budget. Can you help a trans family stay housed today? I would not ask unless it were an emergency

Best: The 10,000 Maniacs' cover of 'Because the Night' from MTV Unplugged.

Most clever: The Carolina Chocolate Drops covering 'Hit Em Up Style'.

Sheer wtfery: Le Tigre's version of 'I'm So Excited'.

2. Countries that have ID cards - like the whole of Europe - still have the same irregular migration problem (you may have heard!!!)

& in fact the UK has the lowest share of its economy estimated as irregular economy in Europe so if it fixes the issue WHY DIDNT IT FIX IT THERE?

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

deepest of deep breaths

feeling nervous about this one, friends! I've written about the mainstreaming of pull-to-publish, its impact on fandom, and what it means for an increasingly corporate and IP-driven creative landscape.
"Feed fanfic into capitalism, and it comes out shaped like capitalism."

@readingtheend.bsky.social dissects the trend pulling fanfiction through the traditional publishing pipeline (and what it means for fandom):

Every time I make myself cinnamon toast (especially using Penzey's blend, because cinnamon here is less cassia-forward than in the US), it is delicious and I get decked by nostalgia.

Why don't I do it more often? It's not like it's hard.

Again, I'm pretty sure the rerelease of Buckingham/Nicks is what broke our timeline (I've been a fan for over 25 years and suspected S&L would NEVER, especially after the latest Fleetwood Mac implosion of the late 10s).

But it's a banger of an album, so you might as well buy it or at least stream.

ME: I'd forgotten Robert Redford was involved in Ordinary People.

MATT: What's Ordinary People?

ME: [halfassedly explains the plot, Oscar bait, heartbreak, etc.]

MATT: Uh-huh. Never heard of it.

ME: It won several Oscars.

MATT: Nope, no idea.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.

A big problem with US conservatives is that they view people disagreeing with them as an attack — but they view them actually attacking people as “a disagreement.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

The Washington Post’s decision to fire a Black opinion journalist for accurately quoting Charlie Kirke’s racism is a fitting tribute to “free speech” as Kirke and his hagiographers practiced it: whites only, flattering to the powerful, and in furtherance of a fascist agenda.
