British Columbia is literally in the southwest of Canada. Why would we refer to ourselves as the PNW?
I’m surprised to see a few people bothered by the term “Pacific Northwest“.

I get that it’s not as used here in Canada, and that not everyone in ON/QC will recognize it.

But apparently there are people in BC who reject the term.

A spring storm brings a downpour of rain over the coast mountains in BC. Eagle Mountain is receiving most of the rain here while the sun breaks through the clouds from the west. Photographed from Burnaby Mountain.

“Content” is created for others to consume. To fill a bottomless void created by corporations.

Art is something we create for ourselves. To fill our own soul.

We need more artists in this world.

So it’s Thanksgiving Day in Canada and this is your reminder it is not “Canadian Thanksgiving.”

WE STARTED THANKSGIVING. Like most good things, Americans stole the idea off us.

It began in 1578 as a harvest celebration. It was an official holiday in 1879.

It remains a harvest celebration.

"Baker Blues" for #MountainMonday

Photo from September 2022 when we met @mrussellphoto.bsky.social & Alan Majchrowicz for a hike. The blue haze was induced by relatively distant wildfires.

For #ThrowbackThursday I have a photo of Harbour Centre in Vancouver from my first day of using a DSLR back in 2007. What a difference from a film camera! A lot of the photos from that day were not great, but I still like this one quite a lot. Not sure that glass dome is even still there...

Baking cookies. I went outside so I set a timer on my phone. Incorrectly. By the time I figured this out the time was about 10 minutes past the 13 they should be in there for! A burned cookie calamity was only avoided because apparently I forgot to put the cookies in the oven in the first place. 🙄

This is called an African Wonder Flower, and that may be the most exciting and optimistic thing I've heard all week.

Part of the fun for me is learning about each subject. We take reading for granted, but I think a lot about how it's changed my life.
