Trump has accomplished the feat of replicating 12 years of disastrous Reagan-Bush era foreign policy and tax + spending reforms in just 11 months. Truly impressive

even my favored structural reforms are just finding ways to brute force a less destructive republican party, whether that is ending as much as possible the electoral bonus for representing rural areas or making multi-partyism more viable.

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

i really, truly, sincerely believe that righting the equilibrium for the united states depends upon congressional democrats reclaiming congress' first-amongst-equals role in governance, and everything short of that — including a transformative president — is a failed half-measure

Honestly insane they didn't brief the gang of eight until it was underway

Someone got very angry at me on here yesterday for suggesting most Americans have no idea who Maduro is and insisted it was ‘cope’. For the record like 33% even say they have any opinion of him when asked, which almost certainly overstates it as people don’t want to say they don’t know
now that President Trump, former host of celebrity apprentice, has finally brought the coward dictator to justice, I think i can confidently say most Americans will weep with gratitude and joy, responding to the pollsters with common, joyful phrases such as “who is Maduro” and “wait you did what”

The amount of “this is clearly about oil” posting across all platforms as story after story comes out where the oil industry is saying that the oil isn’t worth extracting is making me feel a little insane

I think public opinion will ultimately turn toward people being in favor of capturing Maduro, with regime change remaining unpopular. But Trump campaigned on 2 big things in 2024: (1) lower prices and (2) no more wars. He has broken both of those promises, & that will have political/electoral costs.

The present is stupid. The future will be worse.
The only way future governments become less online is if we all become less online and, uh, let’s say I’m doubtful.
you genuinely have to wonder if the governments of the future only get more online from here on

i would prefer government officials not post gutter racism

I am reminded of how a lot of political hobbyists online absolutely lost their minds in despair back in 2020 when Trump assassinated Soleimani bc they thought itd get him some huge boost and a lotta ppl really do need to realize that theyre lost in the sauce & avg voters dont work the way they think
Anyway some people really need to log off, and today that includes me because brother this is dumb shit and people either being intentionally stupid or fear/anxiety posting ain’t helping anyone
