A plastic mc donalds cup a little less than half full of frozen diet coke in a car's cupholder. Some of the diet coke had come up and out of the straw, freezing along the length of the straw. The bit that had trickled down the straw and pooled on the cup lid is frozen but about 1/2" above the lid in midair

After years of being curious about my lineage, I finally received my ancestry results. Apparently I'm 12% Scottish Highlands cottage, 16% used bookstore, 9% October, 13% cat rescue, 11% rainswept cobblestone side street, 7% dimly-lit café in Prague, 17% scone, and 15% Oxford comma.

Here once again to say getting books from the library feels just as good as buying books does. Same arms full of the same books. Same nice little walk through the same aisles. Same brain tingles too. You can even do it right from your phone while you’re on the couch watching bake off. Seriously.

I love kids. I have two of them. They’re amazing. However, kids are the absolute least self aware, clumsiest little puffins on the planet.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
