We should be specific when we say "tech", whether we mean the fascist overlords, or some kid who works at an Apple Store. The folks who organized unions at Amazon and Google are people, too, and are more _tech_ than any of the tycoons.
the only reason that tech was ever remotely left-coded was that in the early 2010s they consciously aligned themselves with what appeared to be the dominant political party. that meant large donations to Dems and nominal gestures toward diversity. as soon as the winds shifted they swung right.

I've found it freeing to allow myself hypocrisy. And when I yet complain about others' hypocrisy, it only demonstrates my commitment to this philosophy.

Please keep the Palestinians on this platform in your hearts, especially on this day of all days.
Reiterating that there are more Gazans here and they are more persistent in posting their links because there has essentially been no flour in all of South Gaza for well over a week. It is also cold. Please treat them how you’d want people to treat you or your family in a famine.

Time once again to reiterate my most controversial opinion:

One dryer sheet is more than enough, and using dryer sheets on towels makes not a single bit of sense.

I wrote a piece summarizing a few of the things Trump's pick to lead the NIH, Dr. Bhattacharya, got catastrophically wrong — especially in 2020.

I’ve criticized public authorities, including for nonsensical and excessive measures (closing parks and beaches?).

But let’s not rewrite history either.

This is probably part of why everyone on bluesky is 38 years old: 38 year olds are basically the only people who consider it totally normal to flee a sinking ship and then just casually resume the conversation on the tropical island they end up on.

They've outlived dozens of ships.

There's an interesting problem in digital preservation, which is that preservation only exists actively. Only the things you actively move to new formats, survives.

Community is probably the same way: it has to be actively maintained in order to outlive whatever spot it's currently in.

Not Saeed's main point, but I wonder how much of U.S. cultural resistance to doing the reading/homework and getting smarter in general (note: not resistance to good grades—those are 2 diff. things) is a response to the pain it brings. Humans have done some bad things, and it hurts to learn about it.
Doing historical research isn’t just an intellectual enterprise; it’s emotional and embodied.

I legit almost threw up earlier this morning while researching etymology related to the year 1712.

If you’re a historian and/or do archival research, how do you handle the SHOCK of revelation?
