No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

I am begging leftists to actually familiarize themselves with the diversity of the agricultural landscape in this country before sounding off like every single farmer is $60 million net worth soybean guy.

Reminder that food banks have the ability to buy food in bulk and can make the most out of the economy of scale so cash (if you have it) is always preferred.

But also, they're not going to say no to your pantry items. 💚
I just donated to my local food bank. If you can, you should too. People are already suffering but next month, in particular, is going to be so difficult.

I once took some shoes to be repaired and when I walked into the store, the guy grabbed them out of my hands, stared at them, and then said, in a very thick Southern accent, “Did you get these off’n a DAID person?!”

…in retrospect, they were a little beat up.
do you ever have things that someone has said to you that live forever in your head (non-serious edition)? some older boomer hippie guy said “hahmmus gives you fahts” to me 26 years ago at a free fridge and i think of it every fucking single time i buy hummus to this day.

LEGALLY YOU SHOULD BE SENDING INVOICES FOR GOODS AND SERVICES. IF YOU TAKE COMMISSIONS ON PAYPAL DO NOT USE FRIENDS AND FAMILY. YOU ARE NOT SAFE, YOUR CLIENT IS NOT SAFE.

THIS IS A FORM OF TAX EVASION.

YOU SHOULD BE USING INVOICES.
Paypal is now playing harder ball on artists, going after anyone even mentioning commissions.

Artists, send invoices. That way, no one has to say what the money is for on Paypal's paper trail.

Customers, SAY NOTHING about commissions. Just say "thanks" on donos.

Everyone: INCREASE THE CALLS.

Food banks need money if you’ve got it. For everything else, contact them and ask—some can take donated meat by hunters or eggs from backyard flocks, some can’t.
Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2.

There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security.

Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation."

TURN IT OFF.

This is true and they are super endangered by poachers who shovel them up by the hundreds and sell them at flea markets and shit. You should not buy the plants and if you happen to kick the poacher in the shins on accident, no one will hear about it from me.
still amazing to me the number of movies, games, etc. which have Venus Flytrap-based creatures in some form compared to the actual native range of Venus Flytrap, which is like, the great untamed jungles of a few wet pine savannas in North Carolina

I mean yes this is funny, but the fact that these unconstitutional stormtroopers are so directionless that they literally stand around waiting for random nonwhite delivery guys to bike past them is just pathetic. No mandate, no mission, no clue. Just racism.
ICE attempted
and failed to disappear a food delivery guy.
It needed to be scored.

It's new @tkingfisher.com book day! I need to rush to finish the current book I'm on the last like 150 pages of because I have been impatiently waiting for this book since it was announced. Ruritanian romance meets gothic horror meets new weird. Tightly plotted, beautifully written, and SO creepy.

It's a myth that banning a book increases that book's readership. For most books, banning has the chilling effect the censors want. Your favorite banned books need to you be loud for them!
Banned Books Week starts on Sunday, October 5—there are a ton of ways to support!

Find ways to get involved here: www.ala.org/bbooks/banne...

(If you're overwhelmed, even just checking out, buying, or elevating a banned book is helpful! Talking about them w/ the ppl in your life is an action!)

"cancel culture" was an overblown thing where some people got fired for sexually harassing their employees and others got yelled at on Twitter. The conservative version, which some claim as an inevitable counterbalance, is doxxing & death threats for making fun of self-proclaimed white supremacists.

all that stuff the "edgy" comics pay lip service to—telling it like it is, questioning power and wealth, not moderating your message to preserve someone's feelings—this is what that looks like in action. but sure, maybe we need another hour about how nobody calls trans folks slurs anymore
