In November of 2016, nearly 60 years after the paper was published internally, I had discovered the joke.

A few years later, I filed to have the paper declassified, and the NSA eventually agreed, and even put it up on their webpage:

To me, the rise of chatbot-based psychosis is a great way to show that language and (especially) writing are artificial constructs we engage in: we have an evolutionary response of the uncanny valley to things that look quasi-human, but not for things that facelessly produce quasi-human language.

*triumphantly slams return key*

And with that, the last few posts for my "Reading the Hermetica" blogpost series (going on since April last year into late next month) are done.

For those who haven't kept up or checked out the backlog, start here:

I know others have gone into detail throughout the day, but I just want to make sure I highlight how important Judge Paula Xinis's order from today in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's case is.

It is about discovery — the evidence the gov't is to turn over — but her points are sharp and the context is key.

In the interest of loving and supporting backlist titles too, how about telling me some queer dude SFFH faves from the last five years?

All the better when written by queer dudes!
Hey, if you're a sci-fi, fantasy, horror writer and you have a gay book for gay dudes coming out, I wanna know about it. I always want to know about it.

All hail audiobooks, and the narrators who bring them to life. I discovered my love of audiobooks a few years ago, and without them I'd be truly lost.

Hoopla and Libby are my best friends, which is where I listened to most of these. A few are on the TBR, or I've listened elsewhere. (1/3)

SUMMER SONS x CAMP DAMASCUS

A gay trucker and an amnesiac hobo walk into a bar. It's no joke, but the first gust in a hurricane of angels and monsters whose punchline is the destruction of our world. Something is stirring under the desert, and it wants blood.

This had so much of what I love. Southern gothic horror, murder (?), dark academia intrigue, ghosts, and toxic gay vibes. Highly recommend if you love any of these things (or street racing). #booksky 📚💙

@shudder.com has some incredible documentaries about the history of both black and queer horror cinema that I can't recommend enough.

Literally the best thing I did for Queer Horror: A Film Guide, after bringing on amazing writers and co-editor, was hire @brendohales.bsky.social to design our cover. I love our publisher, but their in-house covers can be a bit... drab.

Employee: [via text] “A disaster twink is twirling around the store in a harness.”

Me: “I’ll give you a raise if you trip him.”

Employee: “On it.”

I should probably write back to let him know I was joking, but… eh. My Advil PM is kicking in. Plus disaster twinks are pretty resilient.

fascism is stopped when enough people say one of two things:
1) "nah, I'm not doing that"
2) "nah, you're not doing that"

a lot of people want to imagine how they'll say the second thing, but you should *really* start practicing the first one
