Important to understand the Epstein stuff and the fascism and the corruption are, in a lot of ways, really all the same story from different angles: powerful men who can and do abuse vulnerable people around them because they can, and because systems of elite accountability catastrophically failed

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

I’ve said many times before how if you told me 25 years ago that one of the dudes from The Man Show turned out to be a good guy, actually, I’d think you were nuts … but I get it now.
This is one of the most heartfelt tributes I have ever heard. Watch with tissues. Text/call your friends and tell them you love them with all your heart.

So Dems demanded an extension on subsidies or else. Then they caved. The GOP being smart is now adding abortion restrictions to a subsidies extension forcing Dems to either sell out on abortion or vote no on the subsidies they demanded in the first place.

They just keep getting clowned.

Ppl need to understand what's happening here.

The GOP response to the shutdown was: You're gonna cave, or we're going to hurt vulnerable people by shutting off SNAP. The Dems, unwilling to let that happen, caved.

Having watched that, the GOP is now saying: "Give us what we want on abortion or ..."

Every 6 weeks, I get an IV medication to treat my autoimmune disorder.

My cost: $20

Insurance pays: $1,328.53

Provider charges: $8,500

Every 6 weeks. That's 8 or 9 times per year.
so, today I got the surgery center where I got my deviated septum fixed to send me an itemized bill so I could submit to my FSA for reimbursement

my out of pocket cost: $473

what my insurance paid: $4258

what they tried to charge my insurance (not a misprint): $173692
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

The “But Monuments Are History!!!!” crowd is okay taking down certain monuments, actually.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I LEARNED THE ANSWER TO THIS

Chris's Steakhouse was a New Orleans landmark

Chris Matulich periodically got bored, sold it, waited for the new owner to fail, and bought it back cheap

The sale conditions: Can't move it, can't change the name

He did this six times

Then he sold it to Ruth Fertel
what did ruth mean when she said her steakhouse was "chris"

I grew up in a county next door, and, um, wow 😮
This is how you know the blue wave is hitting everywhere - Beaver County elected Democratic Lincoln Kretchmar as the new mayor on November 4. In doing so, the Democrats broke the GOP's 113-year winning streak in the borough. 917 to 904. Clearly every vote counts!

If Walmart paid its employees a living wage, they’d probably *spend their income at Walmart anyway.* But that would cut into the company’s profit margin which would cut into the c-suite’s bonuses. I don’t mind my tax dollars helping people, but I DO mind that they are funding the Waltons’ lifestyle.
Very notably, people are working full-time at Walmart, and still qualifying for SNAP. Walmart gives their employees a class on applying for benefits.

And then those employees spend their SNAP *at Walmart*.

That's the con, right there.
Let me trickle a few clues on the trail to understanding food insecurity in a nation that COULD, and damn well SHOULD, easily afford sufficient food in this country for everyone, birth to death. 1. Many people who need food assistance *are working full time* but are paid so little they cannot
