Some of the people in this article have shared their recollections with me before - but on condition of anonymity. Coming forward now is an act of patriotism. Farage’s claim that it never happened is the opposite.
(Note also the line about pronouncing his name.)

“He would sidle up to me and growl: ‘Hitler was right,’ or ‘Gas them,’ sometimes adding a long hiss to simulate the sound of the gas showers.” Former school classmate of Nigel Farage quoted in Guardian. Anti-semitism always at very core of far right politics.

I simply do not understand how the govt can simultaneously believe (1) they don’t have enough political capital to breach the manifesto on tax and (2) they have enough to political capital to pick an unwinnable fight with their own MPs on immigration.

Farage and Zia Yusuf are going to announce tomorrow that a Reform government will strip millions of EU nationals of benefits, more than double the cost of the NHS surcharge and cut foreign aid spending by more than 70%, The Times reports.

More Trumpian blood and soil nonsense.

45% of British voters are strongly opposed to Reform, and 33% favourable to Reform.

71% of 2025 Labour voters are strongly opposed to Reform.

And immigration has fallen 50% in a year.

What possible reason is there for this mess?

In 1974, our local Labour Party Young Socialist group invited a bloke who'd just sought asylum in Yorkshire. He was from Chile, a critic of Pinochet and had fled for his life. He opened our eyes to the world.
Not sure how he'd be treated now.

As Labour proposes limiting the protection of the ECHR, we must remember what it was set up to do; protect us all from abuses of power by our govts.
Be v wary then of anyone calling to do that. You may not be the target now. But why shouldn’t you be next?

"We have become the destination of choice in Europe" according to the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.

Asylum applications are down in Germany, which remains by far the "destination of choice" if using that language
.
Modestly down in France, which gets more claims than UK.
Gradually up in the UK, which gets the 5th most claims.
But they are up by more in Italy + Spain.
Yet, they are down in Denmark

The Home Secretary says "we have become the destination of choice in Europe, clearly visible to every people smuggler and would-be illegal migrant across the world"

That is a factually untrue claim: the Home Office shows that the UK is fifth, getting 1/10 claims, while Germany gets 1/5 claims

This would not have happened under a climate change denying PP/Vox government. If they win the next election further progress will be stalled. Spain can be a clean energy super power, with all the huge opportunities that presents, but not if the right takes control.
Spain’s rapid deployment of wind and solar energy has slashed the influence of expensive gas and coal plants on electricity prices by 75% since 2019..... As a result, the country is now one of the cheapest electricity markets in Europe.

In numbers: Renewables have turned Spain into one of Europe's cheapest electricity markets
Wind and solar met almost half of Spain’s electricity demand in the first half of 2025 (46%), up from 27% in the same period in 2019.
