It was a joyous riot, kids stood on seats, cheering, shouting. We were all involved in a way that isn't the case at the local multiplex.

Thinking of long gone Christmases and around this time on Christmas Eve my mother would disappear into the kitchen to put the sprouts on to simmer so they'd be properly cooked in 18 hours time.

One Christmas tradition will end tonight after 20 years. As our son is with his in laws he won't get asked by our priest at Mass if he's home from university for the vacation.
