massive blazing foghorn noise to make sure everyone knows that Benediction – Terence Davies' final film, one of the best of the decade so far, not available to buy in any physical format beyond DVD anywhere except France for some reason – is up on iPlayer for a full year
Benediction
The story of English poet, writer and soldier Siegfried Sassoon.

Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

I want to thank all the veterans who have served this country, but especially the transgender veterans who served and still desire to serve in spite of being treated like 2nd class citizens by the very country they defend. Thank you all for your service.

Once again I'm gobsmacked at the number of people calling for the abolition of the BBC who have John Peel, Hitchhikers, Doctor Who, Alan Partridge or Blackadder avatars. I'm not even sure how they can have sufficient intelligence to remember that their feet go on the ground.

Argh, saw a poem on here recently. It revolved around the phrase "get back in the kitchen", and the gist of it was "don't you know women share knowledge in the kitchen, nurture revolutions in the kitchen" etc? Anyone got any ideas?

My mother once explained to a Rauch employee on a plane to Vienna why their grape juice sold so well in Saudi. No preservatives to interfere with fermentation. She was better at it than this 'fessor.
It was a little bit naughty but I made wine when I had a six month stint in Saudi. It wasn't very good wine. In fact it tasted disgusting. But I drank it and puked up just to break the law.

It really is nobody's business if you wear a mask. Immunosuppressed or just don't want a cold/flu/Covid/whatever. Maybe you don't want to share what you've already got. Maybe that should be the norm, if you can't just stay home.
Sometimes when people ask me why I’m wearing a mask I say I’m traveling or have some important thing soon and can’t afford to get sick and miss it and that’s pretty much always true but I think it would be nice if it were more normalized to just say “I don’t want to get sick” and leave it at that

This perfectly encapsulates how I feel living in the US. The republican party is an insane death cult, the democratic party is 3 corporations in a trench coat, and the "socialists" are just the completely normal left-wing capitalists you'd find in any of 2 dozen European nations.
Europeans recognize Zohran Mamdani’s supposedly radical policies as ‘normal’
Critics of New York City’s mayor-elect have said his pledges of free bus service and universal childcare are unrealistic, but in Europe it’s a given

When I was first elected, evidence showed it would take 193 years to bring London's air pollution within legal limits.

Due to our policies, we've done it in 9.

In Brazil this week, we showed that cities are giving the world reason to hope when it comes to tackling the climate emergency.

🧵 The injustice of the justice system.
Recently a marginalized client and I got a good result at trial on a bullshit charge related to all the fascism. After court, I congratulated the client and said the case was over.

Client was pissed.

"So when do I get paid for all the work I missed and the damage to my reputation?"

it's pretty funny how peppers produce capsaicin so they get eaten and dispersed long distance by birds instead of puny walking mammals, but then some apes decided "oh hey pain is fun actually" and now the plants made it to every part of the planet

Dubious handball decision overrules a goal from a corner that should have been a goal kick. Justice done or just woeful officiating?

Read this thread. This is what @katmabu.bsky.social was protesting, and why she repeatedly says getting beaten up by ICE outside is nothing compared to the torture and crimes being committed inside Broadview. These thugs must be held to account.
A family friend was telling us about what her husband shared about his experience in Broadview before he was deported back to Mexico. She's been sharing to friends and family because she's just in disbelief & horror what her husband told her. She wasn't able to talk to him until he was in Mexico.
