I run a lot of online workshops. It’s fascinating to watch them evolve. The current trend is “Parallel Play” rather than “Cooperative Play”. People interact with me, but less keen to interact with each other. They prefer individual tasks over breakout discussion.

Emergency trip to the shops. I’m out of the one thing I cannot be without, you know what it is!

Extra drama courtesy of temporary traffic lights.

Delivered a ‘Social Media for Researchers’ workshop for another German university today. I love that I’m the go-to for German institutions because I’m the only person more jaded than them about social media.

Immensely proud to share that I am the designer of the official badge for LGBT+ History Month 2026.

Last night, @lgbthm.bsky.social revealed that the 2026 theme for the month will be 'Science and Innovation', so get ready to learn about some amazing queer scientists next year!

Someone having a go at me for buying Lego while there are genocides happening.
I don’t believe a race to the bottom is how we win the fight for compassion & justice. The constant drive for moral superiority makes it harder for people to join our cause. Be quick to praise & thoughtful in critique

Anyone have recommendations for trainers in Citizen Science?
It’s something I touch on but don’t have specific sessions on.

How bad are the trains in the UK?

My delay repay has been delayed!

And by two companies on the same day.

Theoretically a good thing, but I’d be interested to see how broad the moderation is. Ie what makes the profanity filter threshold? Who decides what is misinformation?

I’ve turned most things to “warn” to see what it’s currently identifying as problematic.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

First go to the hamburger menu in the upper left corner

That was the first series of Traitors I’ve seen.
My main takeaway - I could not cope being a traitor.

No trains today just 6 hours straight in my colourful little spaceship.

First up is Impact through Engagement exploring how research can create demonstrable change beyond academic.

Then diving into the world of Social Media for reseachers.

A very drunk Glasgow man just affectionately headbutted me on the chest as a goodbye. That’s new. Like a new level of fist bump.

Even the runners are wearing more than me. I’m from the fast frozen north, this is still summer weather down here.

Bounding cheerfully off the sleeper after many wonderful hours of excellent sleep. Definitely ready for a busy day.

Millions of trek fans shrug in unison

As often as I get the sleeper, having a train dinner is pretty rare.
Hello from the dining car.

Yup. On that train again. 🚂

When Big Manni burst on to the TikTok scene I loved his informal style, doing his experiments in his garden.

But I’m increasingly concerned about showcasing bad practise to huge audiences. Pouring and stirring sulfuric acid without googles?! 😱

With a big audience comes a big responsibility.

Why did no one tell me the Evita palladium cast recording was out 😱

If you are curious as to why, as a salsa dancer, I hate what strictly does to it…
They turn it into a pantomime of a dance, prioritising performance over dance content. They do a minimum of salsa steps, which kills the distinctive movement. There are too many lifts, tricks and solo work.

I survived watching Alex Kingston do a strictly salsa. I have loved Alex and Salsa most of my life and was very nervous for them combining.
She did well. She was over scored a little, but I breath a sigh of relief that two of my favourite things survived their encounter. 😅
