Extrovert facilitators just don’t get it. These things are championed as best practise without realising how utterly painful they can be. If this happens I’ll leave.

Trust me, if you have spaces that introverts feel welcome in, the extroverts will take care of themselves.

Why do I keep banging on about titles?
Because these horrific situations arose because rich men abused their power & privilege.

Our response? Remove the honours? No. Accountability doesn’t even stretch to taking their titles away, we pretend they don’t exist.

What an absolute insult to victims.
Get it right BBC
He is not “the former Duke of York”. He is the Duke of York. He has neither renounced the title nor has Parliament acted to remove it. He doesn’t want it mentioned

Guess he prefers to play the common man and doesn’t like to draw attention to his privileged and protected position.

I just laid my Star Trek shame bare over on Instagram….

I’ve never seen the end of DS9.

I’ve met pretty much the whole cast, even interviewed some on stage but I don’t actually know how it all ends 😅
Doing my homework now so I can keep watching Starfleet Academy.

Someone at @gallifreyone.bsky.social must be wearing my pins. Orders for my little Doctor Diamonds been trickling in all day.

Without free tuition here in Scotland I would have been terrified to go to uni. I’m honestly not sure I could have coped with the financial stress of huge loans.
“The combined tuition fees of the entire Question Time panel would not cover my cost for 1 year of uni. Is that fair?”
Oli Dugmore

It’s absolutely NOT fair. This outrageous scandal must end

Yes! Just on Etsy though. (And it is a bit expensive, they need to be tracked 😔)

Most unhinged story of the day:

Olympic ski jumpers are allegedly injecting hyaluronic acid into their penises to make them bigger and therefore increase the surface area of thier suit for a competitive advantage. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/articl...
Ski jumping: Wada responds to penis injection claims
The World Anti-Doping Agency could investigate if evidence emerges that male ski jumpers are injecting their penises in a bid to improve sporting performance.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

REF anxiety is kicking in.
This week I've had 4 organisations get in touch asking if I'm doing consultancy for Impact Case studies. Short answer is yes, but I'll have quite a strict limit to how many I can take on.

“Quits the Lords” isn’t the same giving up his peerage.

Mandelson is still a Lord.
Andrew is still a Duke.

They could give them up, they won’t.
They could be taken away, they won’t be.
Our unaccountable peerage system isn’t a joke, it’s an insult.
February 3, 2026 at 5:57 PM
Starmer campaigned on Lords reform. It would be the easiest thing in the world to make peerage removal an option for conduct breeches.

Recently: Duke of York, Lord Mandelson, Baroness Mone, Earl of Shrewsbury

Nazir Ahmed even went to prison for the sexual assault of children. He is still a Baron.

My gran who left school at 13 is in awe of academics. She thinks they are super humans, smarter than she can even imagine.

So anyway I have a hobby of sending her signs from unis to show just how smart y’all are.

Whether it is Musk’s Royal Society Fellowship or Andrew’s Duke of York title, organisations need to get better at life-honours being conditional.

There should be clear code of conduct rules and expulsion procedures for breaking them.

“It’s difficult” isn’t an excuse. Have robust processes.

My gran: that film you like was on tv, hedgehog fortnight.

Me: hedgehog fortnight?

Gran: yes, when everything is the same

Me: I have no clue what that means

Gran: he keeps redoing it all?

Me:?

Gran: all the days are the same

Me: GROUNDHOG DAY! 😂

Happy 2nd of Feb to y’all.

Urgh. Late last night I rattled off a lot of emails, what I didn’t know was spell check wasn’t working.

I’m dyslexic. They were a mess 😬😭😫
So bad I had to send follow ups explaining so they didn’t think I was drunk/stupid.

How do you capture evaluation data?
What should you ask?
How do you use it for reporting?

I've trained over 50,000 researcher and I'm running a free webinar exploring these issues. Organised by CDICE. Open to UK research staff and PhD students.

“need to focus and do fewer things better”

Big changes afoot.
STFC decimation confirmed. The government is turning its back on astronomy, space and particle physics in the (desperate) hope that other research will more immediately address the nations problems.
Today, we're sharing an open letter from our Chief Executive, Professor Sir Ian Chapman, outlining changes to UKRI investment approach, and addressing concerns about research funding and the financial position of STFC. Read his letter here: www.ukri.org/news/open-le...

Just past Ludlow.
Wonder what our history books would be like if Prince Albert hadn’t died there in 1502 🤔
Would Scottish and English crowns ever have joined?
Would England be more European?
February 1, 2026 at 6:27 PM
A 30% swing at the national level isn’t realistic. But let’s just take a moment to imagine. “Wipeout” wouldn’t do justice to what the republicans would experience. Obliteration of a scale never seen before. 🤩
Even >5 point swing would put the Dems firmly in control of both houses. It’s possible.
