Great example of a useless law just to tell constituents you're doing something. Postal crimes are handled by the US Postal Inspection Service, but prosecuted by regular prosecutors. For federal crimes that'd be the DOJ, who'd have to allocate significant resources to prosecuting petty theft.
"porch piracy" is theft. it's illegal in every single state. in states with expansive statutes, this could even be burglary. there is no evidence that local police or prosecutors are unable to handle this. and existing federal law on interstate transportation of stolen property can handle big cases.

TikTok just randomly gave me a popup advertising a swastika necklace. Then on the TikTok shop homepage, that and an Iron Cross necklace are the top two recommended item 🫠

Would have loved to be a fly on the wall of the internal comms meetings that resulted in this. Some random Microsoft engineer managed to inadvertently announce the company is rewriting Windows in Rust using AI 😭

Ever since the TikTok ban they just completely gave up on moderation. Last week I was getting ads for unregistered firearms, this week we’ve gone even more illegal. That’s a 400 watt signal jammer. With a single button press you can get clapped by the FBI, FAA, and FCC all at the same time.

I’m enjoying The Night Agent so far, but the only thing that’s helping me suspend my disbelief is pretending it’s the current administration. Their emergency response protocol for spies in distress is calling the local PD, who sends 1 cop, or using the White House’s only FBI agent 😭

Imagine voting for president 'no wars' and then having to spend Christmas on a boat conducting a naval blockade against a country that poses absolutely no threat to you whatsoever.

One of the most misunderstood things about Chinese censorship is the fact that very few topics are explicitly censored by law. The CCP prefers a combination of arbitrarily slapping people around for overstepping an invisible line, combined with favors for those who "impress" them the most. 1/3

9/11 is possibly the dumbest analogy to use as an anti gun control argument. There are extremely strict mental/physical heath tests before you can get a pilots license. You can't even take flying lessons on certain visa types, and non-citizens have to undergo intensive background checks first.

Russia has begun deploying tanks topped with... shipping containers?

Apparently I could start a business buying Ninja blenders and just re-selling everything except the blender, because people are selling replacement parts on Amazon for more than the entire thing even costs.

Ironically TikTok will actually become propaganda now. All because a bunch of out of touch old people couldn't comprehend what normal political opinions look like. Everyone being against bombing hospitals was obviously China's doing, so we sold the platform to some techno fascists. Nice job, idiots.

the cretins that reap the consequences of cyber privateering need get ready to find out just how myopic their red teams has been in supporting defense and just how much they’ve been lying to themselves about being able to conduct offense.

so glad to see the dumbest fucking idea in my entire profession — which every serious practitioner has been sneering at since it was first raised while championed only by bloviating armchair operators — is coming to pass.

It's crazy how the US built this extremely robust system of government to prevent the centralization of power. Armed the populace so they could keep everything in check. Then all it took was 1 dude to just go "I can do whatever I want" and everyone was like "fair enough".

This gave me an idea. If LLM can truly reason, someone should be able to train one on only texts preceding a major scientific discovery, then have the LLM reason the rest. No need to speculate on if LLMs are capable of novel discoveries. Test them on existing ones.

A good rule of thumbs is that if a country doesn't have a strong enough opposition to unseat their own dictator, they don't have a strong enough opposite to fill the power vacuum if you do it for them. Something you'd think the US would have learned after like the 15th time this century.

Someone sent me a link to the Twitter version of Eric's post, and the comments perfectly illustrate why I'm against the idea. The most vocal support comes from the biggest angriest idiots on the biggest angry idiot platform. And those are the people who'd be signing up to conduct these ops.
Gotta say, I think Marcus makes an interesting point.

Less teens using Twitter than Facebook says everything. Doesn’t get any more uncool than that.
Teens turn to a variety of online platforms, but YouTube continues to stand out. Roughly nine-in-ten teens report ever using it. TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat are the next most widely used platforms.

In my mind the internet isn't real, it's just some pocket universe where nothing matters. But then someone IRL will recognize me from TikTok, usually resulting in me considering fleeing into the jungle and living out the rest of my life pretending to be a lizard
