Mamdani embodies a pro-Palestinian politics that truly distinguishes between the state of Israel and the Jewish people, and truly takes antisemitism seriously as its own problem. That makes him a threat to those who want to absolutely conflate antisemitism and anti-Zionism, whether the ADL or WoL.
The pro-Palestine group Within Our Lifetime has already decided that Zohran Mamdani has sold out the pro-Palestine cause... by condemning swastikas drawn on a Jewish day school in Brooklyn. forward.com/culture/7822...
Mamdani's first statement on antisemitism as mayor-elect got some weird pushback
After someone spraypainted a swastika on a yeshiva, Zohran Mamdani condemned antisemitism. Somehow, this generated conspiracy theories.

yeah but it’s good right. like this is good for sure, right
ICYMI: Microsoft’s charge “implies a more than $12 billion quarterly loss at OpenAI, said Firoz Valliji, an analyst at Bernstein.”
That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

Relatedly, EFF has a cellular spying tool called Rayhunter that’s fairly easy to setup. It’s a portable device but does not run on your phone, so not quite the same thing as this Android feature below.

A couple weeks ago I opened up robinhood accounts for my mom and my kids with $100 balances. bought GLD and IAU calls and call spreads. kids are up 500%, mom's is up 750% (bought closer-dated ones in hers). Not just up, but taking profits, rolling out and up, so kids accounts are at $300 cash.
it's parabolic even when viewing on log scale. insane. i am very long gold obvi

klarna is even offering "margin loans" at 0% interest lol. you could buy gold/silver bars, buy GLD/IAU/SLV puts to protect them and sell bars when payments come due, pocket the difference.

I love how the big news on Trump’s tariff announcement is how moments before he made it a bunch of people made insanely profitable shorts on crypto, a thing that Bitcoin Bros are all astounded to see happening in a completely unregulated market of a fake currency primarily used by criminals.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera
In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.
As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Jason Blum's take on AI sucks. an AI takeover isn't inevitable, and treating it as such (while also referring to filmmaking as "content creation," smdh) helps AI companies promote the lie that their deeply unprofitable, destructive tech is more powerful and useful than it actually is.

Users should have the ability to set content licenses on both the image and the alt-text, which would (maybe?) allow for better standing in a lawsuit if images are used against the license terms.
In this case here, I think it would be useful to be clear as to what’s happening and why, if only because it will help people make informed decisions about what service they want to use.

Going to keep saying this: the most valuable thing about the bluesky image dataset is the accompanying alt-text. Human-labeled image datasets are extremely expensive to create.
@bennjordan.bsky.social any ideas on how we can poison this while keeping alt text usable?

There's a material basis to say that AI is our golden goose, but that should just freak every single rational American out that it's what we're banking the entire future of the economy on.

they had already ruined it, because providing the best results means earning the least ad revenue, and before that they ruined the internet by doing everything they could to prevent users from visiting the sites.
They ruined Google search for nothing
So far at least, Americans are lukewarm about AI summaries in search results. Relatively few who have seen them think they're extremely or very useful (20%) or have a lot of trust in the information they get from them (6%). New data from @pewresearch.org: www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

We're also about to see 30Y treasury yields (and mortgage rates) go through the roof due to an inflationary spiral, which will further wreck the housing market. Won't be much demand for taking 30 year risks. Pair this with the collapsing dollar and foreign demand will plummet too.
Climate risk hammering LA’s housing market: insurance is harder to get and more expensive, homes stuck on the market, price cuts happening. Insurers and the state’s FAIR Plan reel. Market repricing is underway. Investors and the Fed still looking the other way. open.substack.com/pub/susanpcr...
What’s a house in LA really worth?
Southern California houses are sitting on the market. Part of the reason is physical climate change.
