Trump is being nicer to Mamdani than Democratic leadership was lol

Nothing sums up the legacy of the boomers better than how they inherited a country that sent people to the moon and had a space shuttle that could land on a runway and left us, half a century of progress later, with this.
lol this image from last night shows SpaceX is popping open LOX tanks during routine pressure testing. The Starship program was being hyped as closing in on rapid commercial launch cadence 2-3 years ago

This is going to be like if instead of the YouTube guy old Mike Tyson had fought young Mike Tyson
At least Trump is going into this with an open mind as a positive and optimistic unifier of the American people.

Like whatever you think of Mamdani as an actual future mayor or conceptual national Dem, the kid has the fucking juice on camera

My prediction is that he’s going to charm Trump to such an extent they have to spend a few days cleaning that up, and makes Vance look like a dipshit

Just give the President some gold so he can keep hoarding it and displaying it in his golden lair where he spends most of his time sleeping, the President is Smaug, it’s fine, America wanted Smaug as President, it’s what they voted for

he is simply not built to last any amount of public humiliation and opposition which, looking at the senate, explains a lot for how he made it this far

I don't think, for the record, that flirtation or fascination with Nazi iconography is unforgivable or even necessarily inherently evil.

I like David Bowie and Joy Division/New Order plenty.

But don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Plan A- redistricting (not going to be enough, may even backfire)
Plan B- ICE goon polling place intimidation (won’t work, will definitely backfire)
Plan C- official ballot count interference, legislative ratfuckery to overturn results (requires level of consolidated power they have not achieved)
The biggest is that the clock is running out on midterms, and they have not laid the groundwork for theft.

Redistricting isn't going to be the magic bullet they thought it would. They'll try poll place intimidation as a last resort but I think it's a long shot.

Media standards:

1) No Democratic scandal on par with Trump-Epstein, so it’d be biased and unfair to five it much attention.

2) Trump wouldn’t be shamed into resigning and his cult of personality wouldn’t abandon him, so Trump-Epstein wasn’t worth pursuing.

Way too many think that’s journalism.

Voting to let insurrectionist senators steal millions of public dollars in order to preserve the sanctity of the bipartisan appropriations process (which Trump intends to violate anyhow) evinces judgment so terrible I suspect Kaine would lose a recall election if recalling senators were a thing.
Heaven forbid the Republicans get rid of the filibuster…

Another thing this email trove has convinced me of is that NYT has been actively and consciously helping Trump since 2015. It wasn't just casual sexism, double standards, and political reporting Kayfabe. They were doing catch and kill

my strong suspicion is that dems believe they’ll coast to major gains in the midterms no matter what, and their awful posture right now on all the horrors is less about winning next november and more about what they’re rhetorically committed to do should they win

Listen I agree pot should be legal but also it is objectively insane that I can buy this at the grocery store next to the lettuce.

one of the reasons voters believe the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans is because the democratic party itself believes in the caricatures of the democratic party pushed by republicans
Duh. Those of us on the ground last year actually speaking with middle class/working class voters and who heard from these voters every single day the same - “Trump is an asshole, but Democrats are out of touch” - could’ve saved my new political party a lot of time & money producing this “report.”👇

A good way to do this is also to get a few of your friends together and take over your local Democratic Party! This involves going to a lot of boring meetings but it's *very* possible to do in a lot of the country.

Here’s another who was in on it
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

The caucus’s deference to one another is the problem not just Schumer. They’re not going to elect a leader who will publicly call them out for hiding behind off-cycle and retiring members.

Even the handful of progressive senators don’t go after their peers in a meaningful way.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

In a functional party system, this kind of capitulation in the face of authoritarianism could mean the end of the Democratic Party.

In our system, it could mean the end of the two party system. Neither party can represent the pro-democracy majority. It's time for something new.
