Why is the "we must be united!" hectoring directed at people who are mad at the Cavers and not to the Cavers? Everyone who's mad was united, then the Cave Caucus walked across the aisle and betrayed what the public had been told was the Dem position.
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

Catherine my good bitch you guys are the only ones who do not know where the Republicans stand
Steve Inskeep: You think the Republicans voting with you here will not only agree to these measures, but actually try to do something if the administration ignores them?

Sen Cortez Masto: If they go back on their word, then the American public will know where the Republicans stand.

This isn't "internal recriminations." It's voters expressing overwhelming opposition to what the people they elected to represent them are doing, and anyone--either in journalism or politics--who characterizes it as infighting is either not seeing and hearing what's right in front of them or lying.

Feeling spicy might delete but I used to work with Chuck Schumer's eldest daughter, and when she was getting ready to go to Yale Law she was dissatisfied with her financial aid package so she made them do a three way call (at the office) with her and her dad to push for a better package

the problem is that we understand perfectly well how the senate works and it just doesn't
Durbin said critics of his vote “need to understand how the Senate works”

I have an early November birthday. It's been pretty rough, "celebrating" multiple times after fascist electoral victories. This year I was really excited to bask in the glow of post-election hope for 30 seconds or so.

So thanks, Senate Dems, for FUCKING MY ONE (1) GOOD BIRTHDAY UP FOR ME.

One reason I don't think it's useful to argue about the correct tactics for Democrats to win elections is winning elections isn't enough. They've won the presidency 5 out of 9 times since 1992 and where are we now. The question is how we create something better than a dead cat bounce party

What do you call a leader with no followers? Just a guy taking a walk.

He's not just a senator. He's the *leader*. His job isn't his personal vote. His job is to unify and lead his caucus against the regime.

I’m sure my small girl brain is simply not big enough to understand this but it sure seems to me like “the GOP promises a vote to protect healthcare” and “the GOP promises no vote to protect healthcare” are going to net you approximately the same number of GOP senators voting to protect healthcare

this is why you gotta call your senators even if they aren’t part of the ‘cave’ group - we could still stop this if they realize they have to do this by themselves, with no cover from anyone else
6/ with all the political damage and opposition demoralization that goes with that. Also I suspect - though I can’t be sure - that the cave group probably isn’t ready to do this with no cover at all. Final point, I made crystal clear as march was unfolding that the whole thing was playacting.

surveillance is not safety, example ten trillion billion million zillion
"Although Mexico City’s video surveillance system is a tool to prevent and punish crimes, the city still registers the highest crime rate in the country, with 54,473 crimes per 100,000 inhabitants."
Mexico City Is the Most Video-Surveilled Metropolis in the Americas
Despite 83,000 public cameras, crime in Mexico City remains high—and widespread surveillance raises myriad ethical issues.

Thirdway has a memo out about how Mamdani's politics won't work in the rest of the country but they wrote it before he won and forgot to replace "X%" with his actual margin. lol.
