Researcher, quasi-academic, nerd, fan of weird sports (gymnastics, climbing). I always flip to the back of the book.
BRB, putting "DO NOT REPEAT THIS INSIGHT" into all my groupchat texts. That outta put me in the clear.

Another great NYC marathon sign: "Run if you're not on the Epstein list."

Hey, a cute picture of me from my first bouldering comp last weekend!

This question murdered me. I am a ghost returned to haunt this battlefield that is bluesky.

In NCAA gymnastics, it's a flat .2 deduction for a coach not to move a springboard. Kind of wild that NCAA gymnastics has better safety standards around beam than elite-level gymnastics.

Even more wild that there were NCAA coaches at Worlds, and NONE OF THEM MOVED THE BOARD.
October 27, 2025 at 2:25 AM
In gymnastics news: why aren't coaches MOVING THE SPRINGBOARD OUT OF THE WAY during gymnasts' beam routines???

I'm sort of astonished so many coaches just... left the springboard there during World Champs?

Me hearing an American wins gold in gymnastics: Hmm. No. No thank you. This does not spark joy.

Me hearing it's Donnell Whittenburg: LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Glad to finally debut my "storming the Bastille" sign at #NoKings in NYC. On the back of a Donut Plant box, naturally!

@spratt.bsky.social with the Andor sign next to me.

From Mamdani's speech. Pretty sure I know who these court watchers are.

If you are in New York City, and you're interested in doing court watch/ court accompaniments for immigration court, let me know. I'm at 26 Federal Plaza every week.

If I have to read this so do you

Remember when it wasn't 80 degrees in October in the Northeast?

Begging non-climbers not to talk about the grade system. You're only allowed to talk about the grading system once you understand that it's kinda fake.

Sure, some men have climbed 9c. What does that mean??? It's not a god-given measurement.
September 29, 2025 at 5:59 PM
Ah, that old chestnut: women are good climbers because women are small.

Hmmm, but it were true that being short and small was a boon to rock climbing, you'd expect that to be true for men too. Surprise, surprise: some of the best male climbers in the world are 6' and above.
September 29, 2025 at 5:52 PM
Oh good, now we're doing the "well ofc women suck at sports because they don't have testosterone" bit.

I am once again reminding journalists that testosterone is not the sole component of sport performance! And that testosterone's effect on sports performance is badly-understood!
September 29, 2025 at 5:42 PM
"There is no other sport in which women come close to men" um I can name like, five? And I'm not even that well-versed in this shit?

This was a really cute moment between Lee Dohyun and Anraku Sorato, though. Dudes rock!

The bronze medalist scooping up the gold medalist while the silver medalist watches awkwardly from the back

Spot the difference! Climbers when they lose versus climbers when they win.

Some french fans painted themselves red, white, and blue for boulder finals, and -

look, I admire the commitment to the bit

Climbing is the most dignified sport, exhibit D: time to brush the holds

(yes, climbers both compete and clean their own boulders!)
September 29, 2025 at 2:35 AM
"Yup, that's me! You might be asking how I got myself in this situation."

AKA the utter agony of slab climbing

Climbing is a sport of dignity, grace, and utter body control (exhibit C).
September 29, 2025 at 2:29 AM
Climbing is the most dignified sport, actually (exhibit B)
