Just because I feel like I'm losing my mind. He is describing the ACA tax credits right? I mean obviously he doesn't know that, and thinks magical things could happen, but giving people money to buy health insurance is the ACA tax credit. Right? Or am I losing it?

Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

When I was hired here I remember being told that my workload was: 40% teaching; 40% research; and 20% service. Just saw a new document that confirms that we are officially now 50% teaching; 30% research and 20% service. How things change over 7 years.

As of Nov 6 the federal government has brought in $227 billion tariff revenue. If ALL OF IT was spent on sending out $2,000 checks then that would be 113.5 million people who receive checks or 33% of the US population

All money left over from the $2000 payments made to low and middle income USA Citizens, from the massive Tariff Income pouring into our Country from foreign countries, which will be substantial, will be used to SUBSTANTIALLY PAY DOWN NATIONAL DEBT. Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

This addendum from the author is almost as important as the rest of the text.
As an aside, one of the horrifying things I discovered while writing this piece was this site called factually.co, which ranks high in search engines and uses Large Language Models to create fake “fact checking” articles. They’re running multiple articles pretending Rev. Black wasn’t shot with pepper balls at Broadview, which, to be clear, is definitely a thing that happened.

Tyler Reeve of Community Refugee & Immigration Services in Columbus helped some members of a family arrive on Jan. 17. The rest were unable to enter, even though they were approved as refugees and had purchased plane tickets for February. The family is separated indefinitely. Layoffs left the organization with no full-time resettlement staff. Jewish Family Services in Columbus lost more than $2 million. Tariq Mohamed, the nonprofit’s senior director of refugee services, welcomed a teenage boy and girl right before Jan. 20, expecting their parents and the rest of their siblings to arrive in February. The family doesn’t know when they will see each other again.
