The unspoken part is that Silicon Valley is hoping that the “vibers” are training the AI to replace them, so they won’t need another generation of programmers after this.

"And the latter is why we have such low expectations of IT systems - they work so badly, instead of so well - nobody cares about the basics - but the basics is what we want to work."

Been saying [some version of] this at least since Michael articulated it so well on You're Wrong About... Excluding bigots from cultural and political influence because of their behavior is fundamentally different than bigots excluding people because of their identities and physical attributes...
We're getting a wave of articles that are like, "gee willikers it sure seems like the people who complained about 'cancel culture' for years really like canceling people."

Yes! This was extremely obvious at the time and a lot of us pointed it out!
Some say canceling is an act of redress. Others blame it on a mob.

“People have used the word ‘cancel’ so loosely,” Ernest Owens author of “The Case for Cancel Culture,” said, “that everyone’s calling everything a cancellation.”

I enjoy a well-thought-out, rule-based magic system in fiction as much as anyone, BUT I also think that we should give more props to what Terry Pratchett did in the Discworld books, where it was less about rules and more about vibes and, more importantly, what fit a given story the best.

When I look at what the Republican Party wants to take from trans people there is no line they won't cross--my speech, my privacy, my body. When I look at the Democratic Party I see no line they're willing to draw.

It's such a fun game with a lot of heart and incredible VO work. It's also very technically impressive (those closing doors!) and gives players a lot of freedom.

Get it now so on the 5 year anniversary you can say, "I played it when it came out." Give future you some clout in advance.
Today marks six months since Rosewater’s release! It seems both like it was yesterday and an eternity ago.

If you haven’t played it yet, now’s a great time!
ROSEWATER IS OUT!

A Wild West adventure about friendship, storytelling, and found family.

It's been a journey making this game. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. 🤠🌵

An observation on randomness: in many games, as the game gets closer to ending and opportunities to get closer to achieving your goal lose flexibility, moments of input randomness often start to *feel* like output randomness.

One of the sillier aspects of combating issues like this is that as the corpos start to realize they don’t actually have wide support, they start going silent. CS did the same after about the 3rd week

The lack of feedback can have a pseudo-chilling effect on activists, don’t let it

Reminds me of when iPads came out and people insisted if a child didn't have an iPad glued to their hands from kindergarten they would be behind for the rest of their lives. It's a sales pitch. Not in the interest of kids at all.

i think any individual game design element is really difficult to meaningfully discuss outside of the context of the rest of the elements that make up a game.

again, it's like saying "painters nowadays use too much blue". what does that mean? for all paintings? or maybe you personally dislike blue?

I also get that a lot from people who want to disparate advocacy for continued support for fully remote work.
"people who are still concerned about covid are so unreasonable, they just want us all to go into lockdown again!"

literally nobody is asking for that. what people are asking for is stuff like universal masking in healthcare settings and investment in indoor air filtration/clean air infrastructure
