Please - stop doing the screenshot no link thing on Bluesky. This platform does not punish you for posting a URL. You picked up the habit from Meta apps? Stop doing Mark Z's bidding. Link ESPECIALLY to authors, reporters, bloggers, etc. where you quote the work.

Personally if I ran a social media website where people had hundreds of "friends" and found a study that showed people actually only have 3 friends, I would consider myself a colossal failure and keep that to myself
I read a fascinating statistic that Americans have less than 3 friends so I wanted to improve that using my website that connects people all over the globe. We're gonna add robots.
Mark Zuckerberg says Meta's chatbots will supplement your real friends: "The average American has fewer than 3 friends ... but has demand for ... 15 friends" (h/t x.com/romanhelmetg...)

Unsurprising considering our entire administration and their Silicon Valley sugar daddies are friendless.

Every relationship in these people's lives are transactional.

And it's much easier to Manosphere brainwash people when you keep them away from actual friends.

In the 90s, I genuinely thought the Internet would cure loneliness. But it turns out that for me anyway the Internet addresses loneliness the way alcohol addresses anxiety.

There is an entire political movement that believes the statement “if you work full-time in America, you should be able to pay your bills and have a savings account with your paycheck” is radical.

We must come to an agreement that it’s not radical to demand that.

Not to put too fine of a point on this, but if I spent the last few months putting innocent people in concentration camps and the pope died basically three seconds after I met him, I would not continue life apace, I would not immediately clock back in at the fascism factory.

This is why I still think that the internet, not the issues, are the root cause of this culture war. People (including journalists…who are people) imagine the loudest, angriest positions as default positions because those are the ones that get eyeballs in an ultra-competitive attention economy.
“Supporters of inclusion view those who hesitate or have questions as bigots.” that’s not fucking true. we keep explaining how transition and athletics works BECAUSE we believe people who don’t know will mostly come around once they do know! if we thought they were all bigots we wouldn’t try!!
NYT actually published this sentence, which asks us to take baseless moral panic bullshit seriously as a reasonable position.

Supporters of the Holocaust considered Jews to be subhuman saboteurs of German society, too. So fucking what??

The possibility of abduction by a sovereign and imprisonment abroad is one criterion that separates democracies from dictatorships.

This has been my personal philosophy going on nigh 25 years now.

There is one, and only one, reason to have children.

You want children.

And if you want to be a parent, there should be many ways open to you so that you can become a parent.
the only people who should have kids are the people who want to have kids and people who want to have kids should be able to have kids next question i am so tired of this disk horse

The best part about visiting the US - which I'm no longer doing - is visiting museums and parks. It will take decades (or more) for the US to recover from this massacre.

My question is why we aren’t all just not shopping at any of these - target, Amazon, etc for the rest of forever. I do not miss any of them. I love the “small” folks I’ve found to replace them. Discomfort is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. I won’t be back.

One cool thing about the United States is that there are more people whose job is to deny healthcare coverage without having any medical background than there are people to provide healthcare coverage and they’ve somehow convinced people that the doctors are where the monetary waste is happening
#medsky if an insurer is making a “determination if something is medically necessary”, how is it not a medical decision and therefore practicing medicine?
