they already shut down all the positive services the government provides, hell they even fired all the civil servants who normally get brought up as vulnerable to furlough. dems shouldn't let them turn the government back on until they agree to immense concessions.

Call those senators (and house reps) folks
I just got a VERY interesting email that allies in congress were upset that so many of my readers were calling about the anti-trans provisions. I'm here to say: good. I won't let them throw our rights under the bus by cover of night.

All's that to say, keep up the calls. They're hearing you.
1. It's shutdown day, and anti-trans provisions are on the line... either today, or in a few more weeks if a clean continuing resolution passes.

Trump posted a video this morning blaming a shutdown on trans people and immigrants.

Here is your shutdown guide.

i have to say, as a trans journalist who has covered the "trans debate" for about a decade now, there is no daylight between how the trump administration and conservatives lie about tylenol and autism and how they've lied about youth trans care.

If only there were a way to build housing more densely than single family homes maybe these states could make headway on this massive housing shortage in specific areas. I guess the technology just isn’t there yet sadly.
I decided to make it per 1,000 residents. This shows how bad the shortage is in states like California, New York, Colorado, Massachusetts, Washington, and Oregon.

...yeah? I don't have firsthand memories of much of his first term, but I read my old tweets and it was obvious to me what Trump wanted to do, and that if he got back into power after losing it, he would only listen to the people who enabled, encouraged, and agreed with him.

The granola stuff...
Does anyone feel like they were prepared, emotionally and intellectually, for the current political moment? There are certain things I was ready for (convergence of local and border policing), but for example the rise of granola fascism (RFK and COVID reaction) kind of blindsided me

I wonder if there was a viable plot buried somewhere in SNW's 4.5 Vulcans. The transformed folks got some of Spock's mind (the logic/mental discipline is a learned skill). There's a plot there about Spock being forced to deal with his own internalized bigotry and shame over his identity.

@govmurphy.bsky.social @mikiesherrill.bsky.social I hate to say New Jersey should be copying anyone, but this would be an extremely welcome bit of policy.
This is good: With Trump/RFK destroying CDC, JB Pritzker's officials are exploring the possibility of buying Covid vaccines from manufacturers and distributing them in-state themselves, source tells me.

Dem govs must step up and fill the void.

New covid shots are out in the US! If you're 16-64 years old you need to be in a "high risk" group, but that includes anyone with a BMI over 25 (this is not high). Also, lying about being high risk to decrease the spread of a dangerous disease is ethical when the high risk req is pure bullshit.

this is really worth a read. it's the antithesis of "heartwarming: this child mowed lawns to pay for his mom's cancer treatment"

what's a small change you can make that people in your area might support?
"[It's] as if we’ve collectively agreed that fiscal responsibility is best taught through the ritual humiliation of second graders."

This is an excellent piece, not just about school lunch debt, but how we manage the relationship between working for systemic change and mitigating immediate harm.

What in the absolute fuck. Not doing this (or doing it half assed) is going to kill a lot of people.
Breaking: FDA's March meeting to select flu shot strains for 2025-2026 season has been canceled per email sent to committee members, a VRBPAC member told me. drug companies need about 6 months leeway to make shots in time for fall vax campaigns. #healthpolicy

I just called my senators for the first time to tell them to be better at opposing everything going on. It was surprisingly easy! If you're American you should also call your senators right now. Takes like 2 minutes a pop. Tell them to vote no on everyone and obstruct everything in the senate.
