An experienced organizer I really respect once reminded folks "you can't always win, but you can always, always inflict a cost. Those add up."
You cannot match the size and resources of these organizations that are abandoning trans youth and sacrificing trans lives, but you have one advantage they do not: an ability to maintain a relentless focus upon them.

Make it your work, every week, to think about how you can punish them.

Scrapping jury trials would undermine a foundational principle of British justice: the right to have your case heard by fellow citizens.

We need investment and reform to tackle court backlogs, not the abolition of key legal safeguards.
Lammy’s jury trial plans are ‘massive mistake’, say Labour MPs and peers
Only cases such as murder and rape or offences carrying sentence longer than three years would face jury under plans

welcome to the uk. we have two systems of paying for housing. option 1 gets cheaper for 20 years and then it's free, and option 2 gets more expensive until you die

I guess I'd like option 1?

I'm sorry option 1 carries a cover charge of one hundred thousand pounds

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

"Death of the Author" doesn't mean separating the author's bad behaviour from their art. It means taking away their authority and allowing readers to interpret the art based on their own perspectives. It doesn't absolve the author of being a bastard, in fact it may inform how you interpret the art.

theres a whole bunch of cultures that don't do rings to mark marriage but do do necklaces for the purpose, so do only Christians get to keep wedding jewelry or
Ministers now appear to be confirming in broadcast interviews that they would audit and could confiscate assets (including jewellery) excepting wedding rings from the jewellery that they could confiscate.

Refugees have often smuggled valuables so that they aren’t completely destitute on arrival at their destination. Sewing coins or jewelry into clothing as a nest egg for starting a new life. This is deliberate impoverishment followed by complaints about dependence on state resources.

Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.

it's basically impossible to argue with this, they have won significant policy concessions, and there's no reason to think they'll stop pushing now that Labour have opened the door for them
They must be proud with this endorsement, they worked hard for it.

You cant parachute asylum seekers into deprived areas, in completely inappropriate housing, then say those migrants are 'dividing our country'. You divided the country because you can't organise a basic service and process claims in a timely way

🏠 "Keir hates it"

We have a big piece on the trials of running a G7 country from Downing Street — a poky rabbit warren in three Georgian townhouses knocked together

Tiny offices, mice, "nan's bathrooms," duct-taped carpets, dodgy heating, no phone signal, hardly any showers ... and a prawn
Inside 10 Downing Street, the creaky old house that runs Britain
Mice, “nan’s bathrooms,” carpets duct-taped together — and terrible phone signal. Is there a worse place to run a country from than 10 Downing Street?

But it turns out that isn’t true: MPs and the press together can rend, kill and destroy anyone and anything they want, just by all agreeing to do it. But they can’t build anything that anyone wants that lasts more than five minutes, and that’s why governments keep collapsing to hated enemy status.
