I can think of something else that’s actually out of control and dividing the country.
The Prime Minister said in September that we are at a fork in the road. These asylum proposals suggest we have taken the wrong turning.

The idea that recognised refugees need to be deported is wrong.

Thanks to open data, it's possible to look at what the spending on the cycle to work scheme is compared to other similar schemes, say vehicle salary sacrifice.
Both involve buying things before tax on wages so reducing your tax bill, giving an idea of the tax raising potential from each.

“Cycle to Work should be about helping ordinary commuters switch to greener travel, not giving tax breaks to high earners buying £4,000 e-bikes for weekend rides in the Surrey Hills”.

To the contrary, £4k can get a young family out of a car and onto a cargo bike in a cycle lane.

This is an excellent piece of student journalism that clearly spells out how troublingly ignorant the University of Cambridge seems to be of some basic facts concerning the legal status of the EHRC's now-withdrawn Interim Code of Practice!

Tax flight is NOT A THING. Rich people don't move because of high cost of living; that's what makes them rich! Being forced out due to high costs is a poor person thing, not a rich person thing. Can you imagine a billionaire saying they moved somewhere lame because of expenses? Insane.

You know how billionaires end up with severe cognitive deficits as a result of becoming surrounded by yes men who constantly tell them their every idea is genius? What if we made a bot that just does that to everyone. I think that would be a good idea.

The govt published its strategy to revitalise local communities last week

There is a heavy focus on directing funding to high streets and community spaces, which is part of the reason for declining "pride in place"

But it seems misguided for a few reasons

This article from a UK Councillor on how he is engaging with school children about road safety around their schools makes for a valuable and practical engagement guide: bsky.app/profile/tyne... @tynetom.bsky.social
Article by Cllr Tom on how we’re coming up with ways of engaging more with secondary schools on road safety. Fixing problems takes time but a good starting point is understanding where pupils feel less safe in their journey to school.
