it is so bizarre how universally condemned behavior suddenly becomes permissible if you just slap "ai" on it. there was a time when this was called catfishing
“The work was emotionally exhausting, with chat users confiding intimate details about their real-life relationships, as well as their own emotional trauma, falsely believing they were talking to an unfeeling AI chatbot.”

A new testimony from a remote worker in Kenya details the grueling and exploitative work behind romantic AI chatbots.

using AI cuts corners on involving people who know better. negativity for christmas is an awful ad concept even if it was made by people - so a creative team would push back on the request. business people like AI doesn't argue, not understanding experts were protecting them from their own bad ideas
"The most terrible time of the year"

McDonald’s pulls AI-generated Christmas advert in the Netherlands. The advert, titled "the most terrible time of the year," depicts Christmas chaos, with Santa caught in a traffic jam and a present-laden cyclist slipping in the snow

Sometimes people are like "aren't you worried about the kids and their nonsensical new brainrot memes"

But like, the thing is, I can still spot a member of my internet generation by how they respond to "badger badger badger badger"

Playing with language and rhythm is fun, it'll be fine!
One of the things we've enjoyed the most about the six-seven phenomenon is the way it comes with a gesture, which we've also seen represented in emoji form as:
🫴 six-seven 🫳
“6-7” belongs in the dictionary, actually

I'm coming up on 48h awake so I don't have the energy to alt-text the un-alt-texted image, but: bog standard rights grant clause, has all the limiters I look for, you cannot run a website without a rights grant clause, zero reason for panic
And now Linktree is wanting to copy and exploit our content. 🙄

Obviously they can’t own the stuff on the websites you link to, but the new T&Cs mean that any content - embedded videos, photos, music, etc. - that you have on your Linktree profile, they can copy and sell on without paying you.

The sexual objectification/humiliation and the attempt to co-opt and reverse their political/ideological leanings come from the same desire to abuse power over women, control women, and ultimately force women to perform for you and your interests in rejection of their autonomy

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels “too much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

This is a piece of evidence for the theory that the AI hype is not just enthusiasm for a tool, but an ideology in and of itself.

Normally if you don’t have any use for a tool, you just put it away; if you think you *have* to keep using it, then it carries a meaning beyond its stated purpose

Yes, exactly. Climate change is similar to democratic backsliding in the way both can always get worse, and there are always things we can do to mitigate the damage. It is never over for good.

There’s a very surreal conversation I keep having on here where people seem unable to hold two ideas at the same time, and I’m not sure why. It’s simply true that the Big AI platforms like ChatGPT are:
1. Extremely bad for society, in many ways.
2. Very genuinely popular with lots of people.

and this is to say nothing of how concepts like "crime" and "sin" actually boil down to "disobedience to the rightful authority," and as long as the authority in question (god, the state, police, judge, priest, father etc) determines no disobedience has occurred, then no crime has occurred.
when you understand that patriarchy views children as sexual property it all makes sense. there's no hypocrisy. exposure to queerness & transness threatens to "corrupt" the father's property, to "lead them astray" into self-determination, to taint their future sexual value. CSA is permissible as >
Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.

I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

Exactly. As I've argued, polling that asks, "should illegal immigrants be deported, yes or no," tends to get a "yes" answer because it codes as "should the law be enforced, yes or no." (NYT does this and it's absurd). Once pollsters ask *who* should get deported, Trump's agenda is roundly rejected.
Also most voters have just never thought remotely seriously about policy. “Should we get rid of illegal immigrants? Well, of course; they’re illegal!” There’s nothing deeper than that going on until they start seeing what that actually entails.
Some Dems and pundits overread the significance of Trump's win. They looked at dissatisfaction with the border and discerned a seismic cultural reaction to immigration levels inside the country. The former was real. The latter is a mirage.

Yes and yet several European countries are embracing a far-right worldview that would burn these policies to the ground, so let’s be not be smug or complacent here - particularly as Mamdani‘s pro-immigration stance is radical by European standards.
